Why would he transfer, isn't this a really thin position on the team? Kudos to him for graduating and having the freedom to do as he wishes, seems his best chance of playing time would be at Cal but he may want to pursue another option academically. I do believe he was injured last year and not as effective as in previous seasons.

Because he has a Cal degree and can earn a masters' degree in a location that might be better suited for his post-football interests.

Timing suggests he might have heard recently that he didn't get into the Cal grad program he wanted, but he can easily transfer and automatically be enrolled in the grad program he wants elsewhere.

It could also suggest that he has been running with the 2's. In any event, I wish him the best. Golden Bear forever.

Or maybe he wants to either play for a very good program or an up and coming team.

Only he knows.

But it wouldn't be shocking if after 4 years with Coach Wilcox (with one very bad bowl appearance, which was a loss) he wants to have the chance to have fun playing for a winner.

I think we can assume Xavier Carlton and David Reese locked up the majority of the snaps. If Jernigan wants a ton of play his last year, it wouldn't be here barring injuries.

Yeah, Cal has gone 16 - 25, 11-20 in conference while he was here. Could be a factor.

It is on the outside fringes of the realm of possibility.
