"never been to an in-person class in my life." needed a posse to go in the hall and choose a seat.

incomprehensible. he had no clue about any of it, except that there was a blonde girl in front of him and she was willing to smile and talk to him. if this is a mandatory for him, guaranteed she'll be doing his work and he will be none the wiser.

The older I get the happier I am that I had the father I did: an old, tough, Italian that pretty much only spoke to me to yell at me when I ****ed up or to teach me what to do. RIP, dad, you did a great job, thank you.

I don't know why I even watched most of it, but it annoyed and maddened me so much. All of it.

I had a tough German father, expected a lot and never acknowledged what I did accomplish, recently chatted with my sister (also Cal grad) and asked her is she ever remembered him giving her an 'atta girl": .. none, same for me, I know he just didn't have it in him, but toughness should be tempered with a little softness.. I have worked hard to do better with my girls

I have too. I give my dad a lot more of a break than I did when I was young. I came to realize that he went through the great depression and a tour in WWII. He carried those things, and probably many others, that he never burdened me with. His job, at least in his mind, was to prepare his kids for life that may or may not be easy, not to relationship build. I've had a cupcake life, as I look back, largely as a result of no horrible events and in doing the right thing in most cases. And yes, I'm oversimplifying.
