I am so rooting for Max Homa to finish strong this weekend. He's had big success on the Tour, but not as much in the majors.

Let's go Max, and let's go Bears!

There's a cal connected golfer in the top 50.

Max and colin in great shape!

watched the game today, Colin is always steady, but 2 and 3 putted some situations in the back 9 that prevented him from getting a better score.

They are both within striking distance. Scheffler is unreal though. Hopefully they catch him tomorrow.

They missed several birdie opportunities each…so frustrating! The dam will break tomorrow! Go Bears!

Well, at least you correctly spelled the names of 1 of the Cal Bears.

Along with Max, Collin and myself, anyone else birdie #1 at Tilden?

I don't think it's humanly possible to birdie that hole!

How is having 3 Bears in the top 10 not a bigger story for CBS?

I swear I've heard the word Stanford more than cal during the actual broadcast

Cal hits iceberg in Augusta.

*Still hoping Scheffler has a Tin Cup quadruple bogey in him.

Better college pairing?

Totally different outcome if Colllin and Max could make a simple 5 foot putt.

not many simple 5 foot putts at the Masters. Even Scheffler missed his share.

I watched every agonizing missed putt. Hell even I could have putted that well Ask them how they putted.
Collin choked up back to back doubles and self destructed. I feel bad for him.

I hope it was not lost on any golfer on this site that the greens were extremely fast and tricky so disparaging any of the golfers for missing putts is not going to fly. If the pros are missing those putts and sending them past the hole you know it's difficult. And for anyone who watched after it was over Collin was interviewed and he explained his stretch of going 4 over in 3 holes, thus effectively taking him out of the race, was due to him "getting greedy".

Max/Collin tied for 3rd and An in 16th. Fantastic!! That course is brutally difficult; particularly on the short game. Watch out for all three next year. Like to take all three of them as a team against any other three players!

Dude, you are clueless. The Masters has the hardest greens the pros regularly play on and the best players in the world had even more problems putting because the winds made the greens like glass.

Or you could look at the statistics for the field and realize Collin putted better than most of the field, including the other 2 Cal golfers, Homa and An. He was 16 of the 66 players that made the cut. Even better if you include the guys that didn't make the cut.

As for your abilities, maybe you should share with us your golf resume. I suspect you play your best golf at a keyboard.

Scheffler played the best. His ball striking is in Tiger territory circa 2000, in that he can move the ball both ways with his irons, so he can pretty much get at any pin, which Max and Colin somewhat struggled to do. Still a good weekend for Cal golf. Max got a terrible break, but probably still would not have caught Scottie.

Sheffler sure has unorthodox footwork at the finish of his swing (note Morikawa maintains the traditional perfect balance at the end of his, as Tiger always has).
Curtis Strange swayed and it worked for a while…until it didn't. It will be interesting how long the staying power is of the guys with unconventional mechanics like Scheffler and DeChambeau (Justin Leonard finishes on his tip toes).
Jim Furyk made his swing with the extra hitch work for a long time.

The golf ball only cares where the clubface is pointing at contact. As long as he can manage that, he's golden.

Certainly. The question is whether the theory that good fundamentals help secure consistent ball striking at the highest competitive level over time is true or nonsense.

Guys with better fundamental swings tend to have less injuries. Scheffler feet have some strange biomechanics and he probably will need to adjust his footwork as he gets older and less flexible, rather than putting continued strain on his right hip and lower back.

3 to 5 years from now Collin will beat Scottie like a dirty carpet. You can book mark it!

Maybe. But quirky golf swings have been around forever. And if you've played high level, competitive golf you know that the aesthetic of your swing is just one small component of your end result. I have no idea how each of these guys are in the mental toughness, desire, etc. areas. Those qualities were much more important in my golf career. Unfortunately, I lacked in them.
