Welcome to Cal, Will!
Bears Add All-Conference Interior OL Will McDonald
The Bears added quality experience on the offensive line today with the commitment of 6-2/295 Coastal Carolina senior interior lineman Will McDonald after his official visit.
“I loved it,” McDonald said of his visit to Cal. “As soon as I left, me and my dad knew it was the right spot. Love the staff and everyone in the building. I don’t think there’s a better fit. I’m fired up to get over there and get this thing going.
“We have a ton of good players, a young team. I’m hoping to bring some experience to the room and help the team try and win an ACC championship.
“Coach Wilcox and Coach Bloesch are obviously great coaches but I think they’re also good people and care a lot about the players. That was huge for me. It’ll be exciting to play in the ACC and play a lot of the teams I grew up watching every Saturday.”
As a redshirt senior, the 3rd team All-Conference lineman started 13 games at left guard, helping lead Coastal Carolina to the top conference ranking in passing yards per attempt at 8.49 and third in yards per play at 6.33 and in sacks allowed with just 16.
A veritable pancake machine with his aggressive blocking style, McDonald has accumulated an impressive 83 pancake blocks so far in his collegiate career. He has also only given up 1.5 sacks in over 1,500 career snaps to-date.
As a prep at Porter Ridge High School in Indian Trail, NC, the 3 star McDonald started for 3 seasons and was named AP All-State in 2019. He’ll have one year of eligibility at Cal.
McDonald becomes the 41st commit of the 2024 class for the Bears.
