NorCal Tight End Jake Houseworth Commits to Cal
The Bears picked up their 12th commitment of the 2024 class with today’s announcement from Fortuna Union tight end Jacob Houseworth a week after his official visit to Cal.
"The coaching staff and everybody down there with me come from a small town, I loved it there," Houseworth said. Downtown Berkeley, people always telling me it's big city, blah, blah, blah, but it just felt like a little town to me, like a community. It just felt good down there and I enjoyed being there and having my official last weekend. It was just it was great.
"Being able to be around all the players and everything was definitely helpful. A positive vibe was definitely something I was looking for. Another thing that's important to me is somewhere where my mom is comfortable sending me because mom's a big part of my life and I just want her to also be happy and comfortable where she's sending me. And the bay area, I mean, it's great down there and I think it'd be able to enjoy down there. And of course, the academics there are really important to me, too. That's a big part of my decision."
The 3 star 6-4/225 Fortuna tight end both ran and caught the ball as a junior, rushing for 778 yards in 94 carries (8/4 ypc) and pulling in 13 receptions as well. He held offers from WSU, OSU, SDSU, SJSU and more before committing to Cal.
Houseworth joins RB Anthony League, WR Meyer Swinney, OL Ben Howard, DE Ike Okafor, edge Lebron Williams, linebackers Carter Jones, Ke’Breion Winston and Beckham Barney as well as CB Kaden Cook and safety Jae’on Young in Cal’s 2025 recruiting class to date and is the second commit from the prior weekend visitors.
