The timing of the game, Oct 12, is perfect for visitors, that being near peak foliage season there:

https://www.visitpittsburgh.com/blog/fall-in-love-with-pittsburgh-fall-foliage/
https://www.visitpittsburgh.com/blog/fall-fairs-festivals-and-events/

November is kind of the ugly month in the northeast, no foliage and often wet an grey, but the first half of Fall is great.

I want to go to random road games to venues we've never been to. But I won't be able to schedule until closer to game days.

Depending on your definition of "east coast" . . .

2019 @ Ole Miss W 28-20
2017 @ UNC W 35-30

The UNC pouncing was great. I think I found a bar in Portsmouth NH to watch that one.

Cal matches up ok when we travel. Think Texas and Ohio State. We tend to get ass kicked whenever I travel on the west coast to see them. So I'm hoping for different outcomes

IMO, the Alamo Bowl after that (where we trounced Iowa) might have been Gilbertson's best game ever. And yet, he managed to be something of a turd when I congratulated him later that evening.

Not sure how Temple is in this conversation vs. much more successful programs. I would take a one point win on the road vs. N. Carolina, Ole Miss, et. al. vs. a killing of the Owls.

The question was, when did Cal last "destroy" another team on the east coast? Just entering the Temple game as a candidate.

I'd agree that the UNC or Ole Miss wins are arguably more impressive, but even though I thought Cal looked like clearly the better team in each game, we didn't really "destroy" them. Both were single-digit margins in the end. Temple got destroyed.

We got our revenge on Temple for the Garden State Bowl in the late 1970s.

Part of the issue here is that Cal hasn't played in a true East Coast game very much. Pac-10/12 teams rarely got picked for east-coast bowl games. Most of our furthest non-conference road games have been against Big Ten or Big 12 teams . . . the Midwest, not the East Coast. Ole Miss and Tennessee kind of don't count under this standard either.

But we'll get plenty of those games now!

Those of you who visit Pittsburgh for the game may be surprised by how nice a city it is and how unpretentious the people are. The campus and neighborhood around it are also nice -- one wall of the law school is the left field wall at Forbes Field that Bill Mazeroski homered over to win the 1960 World Series.

My main concern with the Pitt game will be the players remembering which team is in blue and which team is in gold.

Fantastic city. Great baseball park for pirates and hoops arena for Pitt. The Pitt campus is really hilly. Wish they hadn't deleted Forbes field and the campus football stadium though. The views from "Heinz"are wonderful but the feel of the stadium is very sterile. It's good for steeler games but is so open that unless sold out (and it won't be) the college games are kind of duds. Cal will make it fun tho. The food is fantastic all around town. Amazing restaurants. Barring a miracle, there will be no Pirate games that weekend and Steelers are gone, too since we'll be destroying the turf. Penguins are out of town, too.

I was there! It was our only win of the year -- it was played late because of Super Storm Sandy (I think).. Kyle Boller was then a junior. A Rutgers fan turned to me and said, "is he a senior?" "No, I said. "He could turn into a helluva quarterback!," the Rutgers fan said. And indeed Jeff Tedfor turned Boller into just that.
