Starter and bith backups FR, scary?

Both of you might feel a bit better if you look at the real depth chart released today instead of BI's educated guess from a couple of weeks ago. My big concern is the suggestion that Mikey Matthews had a camp injury.oski003 said:Oakbear said:

The first two in the depth chart appear to be 3 star RS Freshmen, with the first backup recruited as a DE. The third stringer is a 2024 WR?

I don't know what you think there was a WR listed at LT. All three are at least 6' 7" and at least 285 lbs.
get your eyes checked man, rogers is listed as the third team wr... one above the LT spot.oski003 said:Eastern Oregon Bear said:Both of you might feel a bit better if you look at the real depth chart released today instead of BI's educated guess from a couple of weeks ago. Trevor Rogers is third LT on the BI Depth Chart. Thank you for posting what appears to be a more accurate chart.

How about more "factual" as opposed to "accurate"? There really is only one that matters...oski003 said:Eastern Oregon Bear said:Both of you might feel a bit better if you look at the real depth chart released today instead of BI's educated guess from a couple of weeks ago. I thought Trevor Rogers was third LT on the BI Depth Chart. Thank you for posting what appears to be a more accurate chart.
Agree with many of your thoughts. I think the OL size is a concern against many of the ACC teams but Bloesch likes his OL to be able to move. Stoffel mentioned specifically that the OTs are being asked to pull here. Something he did not do a lot of (if any) at Temple.Bearly Clad said:
My thoughts on the depth chart:
- First, Nick Morrow is listed as the 1a starting LT with an "or" between him and Stoffell the Senior. Also the Fr tag is a little misleading for Morrow because he took a greyshirt year in addition to his redshirt year. Not sure where anyone is seeing Trevor Rogers on the OL but that's not on the depth chart from the coaching staff
- Akili Calhoun is absent the depth chart completely. We can speculate as to why that is but I found it surprising nonetheless
- With Sioape Vatikani not playing this week and possibly not by week 2 for Auburn (not confirmed by the staff but he hasn't been practicing) our starting OL is seriously lacking in size. Sioape is the only one to meaningfully break 300lbs as the others are all under or right around 300 (and that's depth chart weight so it's very likely that we'll only have 2 OL at 300 with everyone else in the 280-295 range). That's not a lot of size for a team that wants to pound the ground game up the middle against some big SEC boys on the defensive front
- With Mikey Matthews and Tobias Merriweather also missing this game (again, not confirmed but assumed) I expect to see Trond starting at the outside which would give Mavin a chance to finally break out with his snap count since all 3 of the WRs listed behind him on the depth chart would be out of play (Trond on the outside and Matthews/Martin out injured having missed most of camp)
- There are only 7 true freshman listed on the depth chart which only goes 3 deep (or 4 at a select few positions) which is not unusual for a Wilcox team that prioritizes experience, especially for week 1. 3 are on the OL because it's a numbers thing, 1 is the backup kicker, 1 is a WR, and 2 are ILBs. Special shout out to two of them: Josiah Martin speedy WR out of Texas is listed as an "or" with the 3 other slot WRs, and Aaron Hampton the tough SOB out of Alaska is listed as 2nd string ILB which makes him the only true freshman on the roster definitively placed over another player on the depth chart. They must've bested their asses to earn those distinctions for week 1 since Wilcox & co. very rarely play true freshman at all (especially not week 1) and make them earn their stripes
- Mendoza and Chandler listed with an "or" between them which all but confirms what we've all assumed. They will likely both play early in the Davis game with Mendoza nominally getting the start based on seniority of service
- I was a little surprised to see Cardwell 4th on the RBs list, hopefully that's just because of his injuries the last couple years but I was hoping he could break out this year even behind Ott as he has special talent when he's on
- Ryan Yaites the LSU transfer is listed at both backup safety spots, I'll be looking to see what he and Jasiah Wagoner (Oklahoma transfer) do after the starters because they'll get their snaps. And I know we're all excited to see Marcus Harris the FCS All-American as CB1. The new-look secondary is exciting, it can be a strength of the team again
