That was fun. Goff is such a nice kid. Weird how Rodgers never said a word to him during Goff's time at Cal, although I guess that was the time period when Rodgers was mad at Cal for firing Tedford. But that wasn't Goff's fault. A pat on the back, or an at-a-boy, from a top of the world QB from Cal would have meant a lot to Goff I'm sure.

Glad you liked it. Gruden's show was pure genious and fun and the show on Goff really shoto showed Gruden's ability to show how much about football he knew.

BTW, not on point, but I recently flew somewhere and before i boarded, bought a football magazine at the airport called ESPN tantasy football. It rated all NFL pkayers on their major positions. Cal's Rodgers was rated #12 QB and Goff was rated #21 at that position.

Here's what they wrote about Goff --

"Goff returns as the Lions' stasrter after his best season in the Motor City. In 2023, he was second in passing yards, attempts and completions and fourth in passing TD's. In fact, Goff is the only QB to have at least 4,400 passing yards and 29 passing TDs in each of the past two seasons. However, he offers virtually zero in the rushing department (94 total rushing yards over the same two-season span). As a result, Goff finished as QB12 or lower in fantasy points despite his passing prowess and Detroit's high octane offense. He is best viewed as a mid-range QB2 in Detroit's run-first scheme.

I think there were no college teams list in the magazine that had two college quarterbacks listed in the top 21 teams listed. but it would take a lot of my time to prove that.

I will say thing about Rodgers. I was at the 2004 USC game in the L.A. Coliseum, One of the great college games of all time and I think the whole game can still be viewed on YouTube. Not mentioned in the write-ups of the game was the fact that Cal's excellent tight end, whose name I don't remember but I think he played a little pro ball, was injured just before the half and didn't play the rest of the game. I think Cal was seriously hurt by his absense. We might have won had he not gotten hurt.

Go Bears.

I don't think Goff neededo any accolades from Rodgers. Wasn't Goff drafted #1 while Rodgers was drafted #13 or so?

I was at the 2004 game vs $C and I hate to relive that memory. Rodgers had something like 24 straight completions, but we lost most of our top receivers in the first half, including Chase Lyman. The final drive had us first and goal at the $C 9 yard line down by six. SC lineman broke up a Rodgers shuffle pass, I think Rodgers threw one away, Geoff McArthur (just a freshman I think) dropped a touchdown pass, and with our last chance our best remaining receiver slipped in the end zone which threw off the timing of the pass and it defected off his hands. A victory would have probably placed us in the national championship game or at very worse the Rose Bowl. Instead we got the Holiday Bowl and with some many injured receivers we lost to Texas Tech.

Yeah, Chase Lyman.

As I mentioned, I am almost sure that whole game can be seen on YouTube. A classic.

Would you favor Cal playing in an ESPN College GameDay game at home this season, probably against Miami in Cal's fifth game.

I'm sure Goff would have appreciated some support from Rodgers in Goff's 1-11 freshman season, most of which he spent on his back after getting creamed over and over again after releasing his passes. I wasn't referring to the year of the draft.
