U$C and LSU receivers and Fans seem so much faster than we are…we need to improve in this area of our game. I hope we can improve our vertical passing game

Their linemen also seem bigger. But speed and size have always been overrated.

Cal has been adding a LOT of "fast" skill position players over the last couple of cycles, especially through the portal. But also high schoolers like Trevor Rogers (i think that's the wr from the Lamorinda area high school), and Nyziah Hunter, as well as a couple of hs DBs. Cal is pretty deep, right now, in fast wrs And rbs. And dbs like Wagoner, Harris, Nohl Williams, and others are 'fast'. Ott is FAST. David Reese off the edge is 'fast'. Cade Uluave is covering freaking WRs and rbs in pass pro, all over the field. He's 'fast'. I don't think "fast enough" should be our excuse. Not a legitimate one, anyway.

The offense and defense perform as an 11-man units. We will need better line play in order to utilize the speed that we have.

Their lines play bigger...with better coordination. The coordination you can't do anything about except through recruiting. But, our guys need better line skills. They need to strike quicker and with more power. Then, they need to free up their hands to make a play at the line (D) or move their feet and get to second level targets quicker (O). That's what I saw about the lines vs Davis.

But, the play design/calling needs to improve vastly. How can 3 or 4 defenders get outside on a screen and make the tackle for no gain, repeatedly? Where were the pulling OL? How can no one block a lb on a dive play, repeatedly?

I'm glad we won, but we're supposed to have all these upgraded linemen, yet we still can't play basic fb. Let's hope this was all a giant hoax to spring on Auburn, but we know that it didn't look like it.
