"3. Cal, carrying the ACC banner. Just as we all expected, Cal is delivering for the ACC early in this college football season. And what, you thought the conference's best chance of a win against an SEC team was going to be Clemson over Georgia, or N.C. State over Tennessee!? Well how about the Golden Bears going into Auburn, Alabama, and spreading the Good Word of ACC football? You feel that, Berkeley? That's ACC fever, spreading throughout the greater Bay Area."

I feel like the Pac 12 was a darn good conference, but we got pooped on by the following:

1) corrupt officiating that cheated for our opponents in our non-conference games
2) an extra conference game so we can beat each other up
3) playing a fair ooc conference schedule where we traveled instead of being like the SEC who generally won't travel outside of it.
4) having mediocre preseason rankings so we end up mediocre.

Now that we are in the ACC, some of these problems are neutralized. The pac 12 sucked for its member schools, mainly because they weren't corrupt like the eastern conferences. We are simply free of one of the things that was holding us down. This type of crap is some of what justifies Wilcox still coaching here. If he has the same record in a non-rigged deck, it would suck. Yes, I am aware, a great coach who gets immediate momentum succeeds despite this.

U$C beat us not once, not twice, but three times on touchdown "catches" that clearly bounced to the receiver. Goff had his collar bone broken by a launching, crown-leading Skov. DeSean was headhunted by Ellison. They added an extra minute to a game that we lost on a last-second score in Corvallis. They robbed us of a Rose Bowl with a phantom PI in Tucson. Pac officiating was plenty corrupt, just not in our favor.
Please give to Cal Legends at https://calegends.com/calegendsdonate/donate-football/ and encourage everyone you know who loves Cal sports to do it too.

To be in the Top 1% of all NIL collectives we only need around 10% of alumni to give $300 per year. Please help spread the word. "If we don't broaden this base we're dead." - Sebastabear

All of those points are fair, but I think the biggest issue (and the thing that really broke up the league) was TV coverage:

1. Outside of the west coast, it was hard to watch Pac-12 Network (thanks Larry).
2. For games not on P12 Network, usually all but one would be played after 10pm ET.

Most of the country just didn't get to see our games. With the schools now distributed into conferences with ET/CT time zone coverage, people are starting to see that the conference was actually good.

P12 network was atrocious. i didnt realize how bad it was till i realize how easy it is to watch games this year. also so many people watch us because everyone has ESPN

playing east coast team helps a lot as well. so far the move to the ACC is 10/10 and i am loving it. dont miss the ASUs and AZs of the world where nobody in the east watches and in the rare situation when we did beat them it meant nothing

Another thing that the Pac-12 Network did was actively remove content that people put on YouTube. So if you didn't have access to the Pac-12 Network via your carrier, there was no way to see any P12Net content.

I just found out that the ACC Network posted the full UC Davis game on their YouTube channel. That is the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of how the Pac-12 Network handled content. Amazing.

IMO this might be a temporary benefit. The ACC may end up adding a 9th conference game to strengthen resumes for playoff selection and/or to get more money from ESPN.

I admit I was rooting for the Furd in that game. They refused to leave Cal behind in the Pac-3, helping to get Cal into the ACC. Also, Scummy Dykes was never truly invested in Cal. He was always looking for his next job when he was here. Then after he left, he badmouthed Cal. Sod him!

He was only looking for his next job because Cal wasn't giving him the resources he felt he needed to get to 10+ wins.

Dykes' TCU is in the Big 12.

I was rooting for Furd as well, and will probably root for them in their ACC conference games as well, we're kind of tied at the hip now, and it's also Taylor's team.

I too will be rooting actively against any Big 12 team. The Big 12 (while i don't blame them) is so desperate for survival it constantly undermines the rest of the league. It poached Colorado to destablize the P12 and ultimately led to it's collapse. It is now actively trying to engage with other teams in the ACC so it can remain in a solid third place behind the Big 10 and SEC. I recognize the SEC started it and the B10 continued it with USC/UCLA, but at this point its moot.

Again, I don't blame them, it is the survival of the fittest, but I think the feeling is mutual when we don't want them and they don't want us. Our interests couldn't be further apart going forward.

I watched that game, was probably rooting for Stanford to win ahead of TCU. TCU won but I thought Stanford acquitted themselved pretty well in that one. It was a good game

And Colorado lost to Nebraska who is now in the B1G. Those are the PAC-12 alumni's only two losses.

If only this group of teams can form a conference that would make sense geographically and secure an attractive television contract.

One change being in the ACC is we have had an immediate uptick in national coverage (it also helps to march into an historic SEC venue and come out with the upset win). Even friends and relatives back east sent me congratulatory notes. Thinking of chanting ACC after every win. We own it! And this isn't the first time, we went into Ole Miss and Texas (now a SEC team) and beat those guys recently. Let's get some more SEC home and home series! Screw travel issues - we rule the SEC!!!

The problem is that basically all the former Pac teams are getting better TV exposure now than they did while together. Even Oregon State and Washington State got their home games on The CW.

Right now I think Cal and Stanford are actually getting the best exposure for all their games, as long as Comcast continues to pull its nonsense with blacking out the former Pac schools' games on Big Ten Network. (I guess the DirecTV ESPN blackout hurts us here, but that also kind of hurts everyone.)

It's going to get pretty hard to schedule home and homes vs the SEC going forward given that we are going to have UCLA nearly every year as the "A" on our OOC schedule, and that we are piling up a lot of cross-country travel mileage.

In a given Pac season, Florida would have been a perfect "A" OOC game, but in the ACC it's just kind of tedious and redundant, so much so that we had to drop them.

Texas, aTm, Oklahoma, Tennessee, LSU, and Vanderbilt are not quite so far east and are attractive opponents, but yeah, not quite as compelling given our new conference.

Also playing B1G schools (West Coast and Midwest) might set us up better for future realignment.

How about scheduling Oklahoma, LSU, or Bama? Food itself would be worth the trip to LSU or Bama, not sure about Oklahoma.

I've been to Tuscaloosa in the last year. I wasn't overly impressed with the food. It was OK but nothing special. However, I was with a group that favored Mexican food (in Alabama?), so my chances to try the local BBQ was limited.

So far, so good. I've been able to catch both Cal games without hassle.

If I'm in Alabama or Louisiana I'm all over the Gumbo, & Jambalaya. I'd even go for a crawfish boil. BBQ if I couldn't get one of those three

One of my best friends from Cal was from Louisiana and she got me addicted to Gumbo.

I'm not sure right now UCLA is anything close to an A team.

But your point on OOC games having less travel is well taken.
Cal88
How long do you want to ignore this user?
We shouldn't have LSU and UCLA in our OOC slate the same season, it's kind of dumb, counterproductive scheduling, especially given that few other ACC programs schedule 2 "A" games out of their 4 OOC.

We need to get into bowl games even on down years, a 3-1 or better OOC record is key for that to happen consistently.

Scheduling UCLA as a regular opponent makes sense in terms of keeping access to SoCal for recruiting and for the alumni base. as well as minimizing travel. The downside is that with UCLA on the schedule, we can't also schedule schools like Florida or LSU any more, but this isn't much of a downside considering we are already frequently playing bigtime programs from those regions in the ACC.

Quote:

I'm not sure right now UCLA is anything close to an A team.
UCLA is a 50-50 game on any given year, they are down right now, but given the program's advantages are likely to bounce back pretty soon. We're talking about scheduling teams years in advance, so you never know how good they will be years from now.

Totally agree. I see why we doing the UCLA thing and I like it more than a SUC game annually, but I don't love it. LSU, Okla, MIzzou or Vandy or Nebby would be much more interesting as an A game to me

As long as we're getting $10 million a year from them, I am fine with playing UCLA. I am not so sure why we will be playing USC in basketball.

Yes, basketball is the pinnacle of sports enjoyment in the ACC. You'll enjoy that a lot. Save your PTO and get to an ACCT. You'll never forget it.

We (GT) get UGAg every stinking year, ND about 3-4 years, and often schedule another SECheat team H&H. Most recently that has been Ole Miss. But it's also been Miss State, Auburn, Tennessee, and BYU the past decade or two. Why? I dunno. We make a lot of money but it often kills our seasons.
