Well . . . does anyone still think the Calgorithm was a bad thing?
*sigh* It was never the Calgorithm with which I had issue. It was the memes belittling FSU's team and those memes that made (unwarranted) claims about Cal's football team being superior to FSU's before they'd even played that were my points of contention. But in this post-Trump world, I guess it makes sense that some people would cling to "alternative facts."
Well, your further argument was that this would cause Cal to "faceplant" against FSU because we provided them with so much extra motivation, and that this would then derail all the positive momentum for the program.
Except Cal did lose to FSU and is now getting College GameDay to come out anyway. Doesn't seem like the momentum was hurt very much!
The momentum you're seeing isn't what I mentioned in my posts. I specifically referred to the team's momentum. Cal was building steam and winning games; if it kept its head on straight and its nose to the grindstone, that would've bred more success and wins. But nope, Cal faceplanted. This is what I warned against. Again, we've seen this play out time and again with Cal. This wasn't unexpected.
By this logic, getting ESPN to come out and hype us up before the Miami game should be even worse for the team. Cancel GameDay!
You're conflating the arguments again. I don't know if it's intentional or if you really don't understand the difference. Assuming you're not trolling and just truly not getting it, let me lay it out in simple terms:
1) Memes about Cal football lampooning Cal/Berkeley's perceived stereotypes = funny
2) Memes belittling FSU's football team/players = foolish
3) Memes looking past FSU and proclaiming Cal victors before the game even kicked off = foolish
4) The college football world getting excited about Cal football = excellent
5) Cal football players and coaches believing the hype about the team in the foolish memes (see #2 and #3 above) = bad
6) Cal football faceplanting due to hubris from the foolish memes (and also goving FSU extra motivation to beat Cal) = bad but probable (based on history)
7) Cal football building on positive momentum to turn around program = wonderful
8) Cal football faceplant destroying momentum (see #8 above) = horrible
Gameday at Cal adds to #4. That's excellent.
