Nightmare scenario: are we going to get shown up on our own campus by Miami fans? How well do they travel? That would be the absolute worst case, total backfire situation in terms of recruiting, national perception and confirmation that our fanbase stinks.
Not well, they don't pack their own stadium at all and didn't pack the Orange Bowl either

I think they have a decent alumni base in CA.

I'm going to be on the Memorial Glade at 5:45am. I can't believe the amount of swinging doors that had to happen for us to host GameDay this weekend, so I wouldn't miss this for anything. I may not get another chance while I have my full faculties.

Nap at home for a few hours afterward, and then back to campus for the evening rumble. Somebody pinch me.

Are you allowed to bring alcohol/beer into the gameday area if you're of age?
Is it legally allowed? No. Have there been several conversations between members of the athletic department and UCPD suggesting they not get all fascist about "open container" rules and reminding them that the idiotic decision to aggressively breathalyzer students under the former AD set our student attendance and game experience back a decade? Yes.

They'll have a decent cohort but I do not expect anything like Ohio State. Probably more at Auburn levels.

They have a pretty big bandwagon contingent around the country. Very annoying. Very few alumni. Just adopted "fans." Would be nice if we had that annoying contingent as well.

Same here with 2 of my daughters (softball alums). Once in a lifetime event. What a year so far: Auburn and FSU roadies and now Gameday.

I would have just commuted from Pacific Heights but BART doesn't start until 6AM and trying to get an Uber at 4AM would have been goofy

If it's not too late to cancel the hotel, the Burners successfully got BART to run this Saturday beginning at 4am.

Honestly, unbelievable work.

Impressive! I hope those trains are packed. I also hope nearby establishments are open because once GameDay is over, there will lots of hungry people. The game itself isn't until 7:30...Heck, I'd even be willing to eat at the dorms if that the only availability... . Which unit has the best food these days anyway? I stayed in Griffiths and Spens-Black which were units 2 and 3...but I think it was one of the other units I liked best. It was a long time ago ...

I found this info on the ESPN website. Anyone going to be there at 3:30 am Cal time?

"College GameDay" will be held at Memorial Glade at the University of California, Berkeley. The pit will open at 6:30 a.m. ET and fans can line up early.

How can I watch the live broadcast?
College GameDay airs at 9 AM ET - Noon ET on ESPN and ESPNU throughout the football season and is available for streaming through the ESPN App. ESPN's social and digital pre-pre-game show Countdown to College GameDay begins at 8:30 AM ET weekly and is available to watch on a number of social and streaming platforms, including the ESPN App.

How do I get selected to stand in the pit during the live broadcast?
Students and fans have the opportunity for up-close view of the show by standing in the pit immediately adjacent to the stage. Selection is on a first-come, first-serve basis for all fans. Students admitted to the pit are encouraged to wear school colors and should have a numbered wristband. Participants are subject to ESPN security procedures and policies.

What is the ESPN policy for pit participants?
The following items are prohibited in the pit: bags (of any kind), food and drinks, pens, pencils, markers or dry erase boards and signs on sticks. Throwing objects is strictly prohibited in the pit. A number of sign regulations are required as well.

What are the College GameDay sign regulations?
One of the most beloved traditions associated with College GameDay is the making of signs. No vulgar signs, .com, .net, .org, political or religious signs are allowed. For fans entering the pit, signs cannot be on poles or oversized. All signs brought to Saturday's taping will be inspected before entry and must abide by College GameDay's sign policies or will be removed.

I read somewhere that typically the pit is the first 500 people. I wonder how far/close you are if you're outside the pit? Anyone know what the difference in experience is in being in the pit vs not?

We are staying at the Berkeley City Club the night before. We booked it long before GameDay was on the radar. Best place to stay in the world as far as I am concerned. The Julia Morgan pool is almost blinding in terms of its beauty. Free Peet's coffee. Beautiful library and loads of sitting areas. Plan to get there early on Friday to swim some laps.

It makes you feel like you are in a 1950s Hitchcock movie. Or if they built a big beautiful hotel designed after the theme of Doe Library's North reading room and Morrison library. So beautiful/

Plus, it is right next to campus so we will be there nice and early (free Peets is helpful in this area) to get loud for Cal!

Sadly, after 50 years of going to Cal games and confronting disappointment after disappointment, I feel 98% sure Miami is going to thump us. But there is still a 2% chance!!!
Also stayed there for games several times after the Faculty Club was booked. You are correct. It seems to have never been remodeled. I recall there are still some permanent residents and the pool in the "basement" is sublime - locker rooms very period and well maintained. We haven't visited for years and hope it still has its charm.
Bring back bottled beer and cigars at CMS. Should get us back in the Rose Bowl!

We were at Game Day in Eugene 2007 and stayed at a hotel within walking distance from Autzen. We heard people assembling starting at 4 am - which we were not willing to do. The Ducks and Bears were both ranked in the top 10 at the time. When we arrived around 10 am it was packed and there was no way to even get close to the set which also had a trailer at the time. We also noted that the Duck fanbase was incredible and Berkeley is not Eugene. As noted before, the GD group picked the Ducks to win, and when the Bears prevailed, many of the attending Cal fans marched back to the set - occupied the area - and sang Cal songs. Corso actually came out to the group and kissed the Cal helmet that they had placed in front of the set. Desean was actually golf carted out to the set from Autzen and they interviewed him. Getting into the pit will be incredible for Bear fans and I wish you all well! Go Bears!

This is ESPN's policy. I hope we set a good example so ESPN will want to come back. I don't think being wasted at 6 am is a good idea for anyone.

What is the ESPN policy for pit participants?

Not a morning person: I could gladly handle something like this once every few years... and Rece Davis does it every Saturday in the fall?!? I guess when you're being highly compensated, it makes a difference. Dude must have a flexible biological clock though.
