Just realized: Fleet Week starts Monday. . .

It is reasonable to assume Blue Angels already in town. . .

Fly over?

I don't think the Blue Angels are here yet, but I did see a C-130 flying overhead yesterday over the Marina

Was it this C130?

No, it was grey

The ACC gets a big assist here, not sure if Gameday would have come for a 3-1 Cal vs say, 4-0 Oregon...

Thanks y"all for the invite!

Rece has always been a friend to the Golden Bears. In 2003, on the night we beat USC, he was hosting SportsCenter. As the highlight showed our win and the students beginning to rush the field, Rece said, "And the smart kids get to party!"

I thought it was funny and it always stuck in my brain.

Not having games siloed on Pac-12 Network helps a lot. Having the SDSU game on ESPN late night and Dave Fleming raising the idea of GameDay coming to Cal near the end of the broadcast was an underrated momentum push. If that's a P12N game then no one at ESPN sees it or hears that commentary.

Our games this year would've mostly been on Apple TV, which would've been the same death sentence as Pac12 network. Gameday never would've happened.

Is anyone bringing their young children to gameday tomorrow AM? Like not in the pit obviously but to check it out and be part of history? I have a nearly 2 year old who wakes up early as it is. I wasn't initially even considering it but by wife actually suggested I might want to bring her for the memory.

Reece should be an honorary sturdy golden bear at this point.

Well, it's crazy that I am not. Long time Bear fanatic along with my dad. Quickly checked out airfare out of Long Beach (what happened to Jet Blue $49 each way?) and noticed Southwest would run nearly $400 if booking with a week less to go!. We used to drive during the JT years since we dragged the 3 kids and their friends along. No place to park. Worse than that, hotels that are close enough for walking to CMS are long ago booked and also $$$. Don't want to stay in Walnut Creek or Oakland/Emeryville. Added excuse, at 74 y/o now, I can't see getting up early and then waiting (pacing is a better word) for nearly 12 hours for kickoff. And the age requires Port-A-Potties.. I do have vivid memories of attending GD at Oregon in 2007 when we beat the Ducks but I was a younger version and we walked to Autzen. I will be looking out for you all and cheering from the LBZ. Go Bears!
Here's a partial solution.
I, too, was concerned about parking. Instead, I planned to take BART, which has ample, patrolled parking. We have done it from Modesto, parked in long term parking overnight, in Dublin, took BART to Berkeley. You may do it from either Dublin or from one of the Orange line stations.

I would not be adverse to staying in Walnut Creek near the BART station. They will, undoubtedly, have Porta-Potties for the overflow,

As for age and the need for frequent trips to the potty.
No solution. I'm 66 going on 80. LOL

Sun rises in the east. I was expecting they would set up with a Bay / Golden Gate view. It will be interesting to see how it looks in the morning.

What? Why would they want to show off the Golden Gate?!?

The Golden Gate wouldn't show up well with a regular camera, it would look tiny in the background, What they will undoubtedly show is camera shots panning in at the bay view throughout the morning. The GG Bridge is really nice and bright orange under the morning sun.

t's going to look awesome at 6am with the buildings lit in blue and gold in the background, then also great with the red light of dawn.

This might be the best setting of any school they've done in their entire history, not sure if you can top that!

If I stay in Berkeley for a game I usually go the Graduate, but I've been curious about that hotel. I'll try it sometime

This time the Graduate was sold out and a couple other hotels were super expensive

I settled on staying at the Doubletree Berkeley Marina for two nights

Not walkable to campus but it's next to the marina which is cool

We are staying at the Berkeley City Club the night before. We booked it long before GameDay was on the radar. Best place to stay in the world as far as I am concerned. The Julia Morgan pool is almost blinding in terms of its beauty. Free Peet's coffee. Beautiful library and loads of sitting areas. Plan to get there early on Friday to swim some laps.

It makes you feel like you are in a 1950s Hitchcock movie. Or if they built a big beautiful hotel designed after the theme of Doe Library's North reading room and Morrison library. So beautiful/

Plus, it is right next to campus so we will be there nice and early (free Peets is helpful in this area) to get loud for Cal!

Sadly, after 50 years of going to Cal games and confronting disappointment after disappointment, I feel 98% sure Miami is going to thump us. But there is still a 2% chance!!!

So... do we think the early Bart service is gonna be arriving too late? Coming from the city it seems like the only reasonable option

Why not drive? That's what I'm doing. No traffic and free parking next to campus means it's going to be way faster than taking BART

Yeah but if the pit opens at 330, arriving at 5 might be too late for a decent spot. Honestly have no idea what to expect
