I found non-renewing season tickets was difficult. What about my kids formative years with cal football? What about carrying on the tradition of my father and his father? Does it die with him?

But then I found that not spending money for the pleasure of being kicked in the depression bone for 6-8 weeks a year was a great change.

"Why don't you just be less emotional about it?" Because then the wind don't matter either.

"Why not enjoy the atmosphere? The band has always been the highlight of game days!" I did for 40 years, until they took it away.

I've been a Cal fan for 45 years and I'm losing enthusiasm. I never thought I'd ever feel that way. Not going to another game until coaches are gone. And I love going to Cal games.

I made it to 62 years. I almost cashed it in 15 years ago when the Athletic Department couldn't find 5 minutes to recognize the three living founders of the Straw Hat Band. I still find it obscene that the east side of CMS has to drink water from a hose..Pops is gone, Kid2th is now in college in London and nothing remains of any tradition that brought me to a Bear's game originally.
