I'm hooked on this show now. It's extraordinary. They even worked a few clips of Cal into the intro. Amazing. And I hate other schools and fans much less now. It's just a celebration of the greatest game on earth.
Also, I must wonder if these numbers include people who record and view later.golden sloth said:okaydo said:Top college football audiences for Week 6:

Tennessee-Arkansas: ABC: 5.3 million viewers
Auburn-UGA: ABC: 4.9M
Iowa-Ohio State: CBS: 4.5M
Michigan-Washington: NBC: 4.4M
Mizzou-Texas A&M: ABC: 3.3M
Michigan State-Oregon: Fox: 2.8M
UCLA-Penn State: Fox: 2.75M
Miami-Cal: ESPN: 1.9M
This was a strong showing, particularly when you consider they had competition from the main Fox broadcast of Texas Tech - Arizona which kicked off at 11:00 est, and the Cal - Miami game out drew them 1.92 mill to 943k.
Wake is clearly the weakest TV draw in the conference. That's probably why our game with them got put on ACC Network, even though it's a Friday night game.Rushinbear said:As you might imagine, I'm trying to see the positive in the ACC membership. One of the keys, it seems to me, is that East Coast viewers might have a curiosity about a West Coast team in their conference. Looks like they may be interested...as long as it's a well-regarded team. Wake? Maybe not so much.TedfordTheGreat said:Perfect comparison would be for Cal vs Auburn last year, also at the 7:30 window, it was over 2M if memory serves.Rushinbear said:I'm trying to find ratings for a home game with an eastern team that started at 7:30 or so in prior years.golden sloth said:
Right now, Cal has had 4 games with ratings information made publicly available. There is no information on the UC Davis game. Combined they equal 4.86 million viewers, which would work out to 1.22 million if you divide by four (and exclude UC davis) or 997k if you include UC Davis as a zero.
Oddly enough the Florida State game has the worst ratings so far this season. But Cal also had it's three most high profile opponents (Auburn, Miami and FSU), meaning the ratings will probably diminish from here on out.
According to these numbers taken from 2015 - 2019 would place Cal's current ratings would place them 35th or 38th. Not a blueblood, but not bad either.

We'll see what happens if we beat Pitt and then NCS gets here. (altho they're no miami).
Though the 1.9 M with Miami would beat all other games this year by a wide margin. (Our own game against SDSU was only 900k ish in the same window). Most other games are usually around 900k to 1M at the 7:30pm ESPN window this year.
1.9 is great. If ESPN gets about 2M every saturday night they are happy

If ticket sales are any indicator, then, at present, the only game that will come close to a sell out is the Big Game.sycasey said:Wake is clearly the weakest TV draw in the conference. It will be interesting to see what happens with the rest: Pitt, NC State, Syracuse, SMU . . . not the biggest brands but not bad either. And then there are games against traditional Pac foes in Oregon State and Stanford. If most of these games wind up on some ESPN network we should still see decent viewership IMO.

We need to rally behind the team for every game. Honestly, much will hang on the outcome of this season. But, even if Wilcox is officially in the hot seat, the metrics of positive attendance and viewing will buoy us immensely going forward. Like the Calgorithm, we need to imagine success into reality.
IMHO, we need to get past the Miami game and seize the momentum from the publicity itself.sycasey said:Bowlesman80 said:If ticket sales are any indicator, then, at present, the only game that will come close to a sell out is the Big Game.sycasey said:Wake is clearly the weakest TV draw in the conference. Yeah, I think beating Miami would have helped a lot with ticket sales, but alas. I hope it's at least respectable for NC State and Syracuse.

we were never their competition for California talent, given how bad of a recruiter Wilcox is. It was always Oregon and Washington which is why USC really didn't want to let them into the B1GBowlesman80 said:
It's clear to me that $C plan was to leave Calfurd bereft of any recruiting advantages.
It was in their best interest to have not just Southern California, but Northern as well as their exclusive domain.
They had hoped we would find no P5 safe harbor.
It's clear, now, what we've been missing media-wise.
It would be justice for our fortunes to reverse.
We've got business to settle with $C and FUCLA!
When you say "never," I think people are not schooled up on Cal in the 70s. Mike White had a Hell of a good team. Honestly, we can blame it all on Wilcox, but there's always been interference, especially by $C, in PAC 12 politics.DoubtfulBear said:we were never their competition for California talent, given how bad of a recruiter Wilcox is. The Cal-Pitt number is respectable enough. That game was up against some tough competition (Red River Rivalry, Stanford at Notre Dame).

It's television. Viewership relies on established and consistent program times.Gobears49 said:
Wouldn't GameDay attendance or viewership be higher to the extent that GameDay starting time was closer to the starting time for the game? So a starting GameDay time of 9 a.m. would be closer to the games starting time in the midwest and east. Taking that factor into account makes our GameDay attendance or viewership makes look better.
