Lee Corso must be at the end.

I'm hooked on this show now. It's extraordinary. They even worked a few clips of Cal into the intro. Amazing. And I hate other schools and fans much less now. It's just a celebration of the greatest game on earth.

This was a strong showing, particularly when you consider they had competition from the main Fox broadcast of Texas Tech - Arizona which kicked off at 11:00 est, and the Cal - Miami game out drew them 1.92 mill to 943k.
Also, I must wonder if these numbers include people who record and view later.

Right now, Cal has had 4 games with ratings information made publicly available. There is no information on the UC Davis game. Combined they equal 4.86 million viewers, which would work out to 1.22 million if you divide by four (and exclude UC davis) or 997k if you include UC Davis as a zero.

Oddly enough the Florida State game has the worst ratings so far this season. But Cal also had it's three most high profile opponents (Auburn, Miami and FSU), meaning the ratings will probably diminish from here on out.

According to these numbers taken from 2015 - 2019 would place Cal's current ratings would place them 35th or 38th. Not a blueblood, but not bad either.

I'm trying to find ratings for a home game with an eastern team that started at 7:30 or so in prior years.

We'll see what happens if we beat Pitt and then NCS gets here. (altho they're no miami).
Perfect comparison would be for Cal vs Auburn last year, also at the 7:30 window, it was over 2M if memory serves.

Though the 1.9 M with Miami would beat all other games this year by a wide margin. (Our own game against SDSU was only 900k ish in the same window). Most other games are usually around 900k to 1M at the 7:30pm ESPN window this year.

1.9 is great. If ESPN gets about 2M every saturday night they are happy
As you might imagine, I'm trying to see the positive in the ACC membership. One of the keys, it seems to me, is that East Coast viewers might have a curiosity about a West Coast team in their conference. Looks like they may be interested...as long as it's a well-regarded team. Wake? Maybe not so much.
Wake is clearly the weakest TV draw in the conference. That's probably why our game with them got put on ACC Network, even though it's a Friday night game.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the rest: Pitt, NC State, Syracuse, SMU . . . not the biggest brands but not bad either. And then there are games against traditional Pac foes in Oregon State and Stanford. If most of these games wind up on some ESPN network we should still see decent viewership IMO.

Nah. He's not flying from Orlando to Oakland or to Eugene for like 10 minutes of screentime.

If ticket sales are any indicator, then, at present, the only game that will come close to a sell out is the Big Game.
We need to rally behind the team for every game. Honestly, much will hang on the outcome of this season. But, even if Wilcox is officially in the hot seat, the metrics of positive attendance and viewing will buoy us immensely going forward. Like the Calgorithm, we need to imagine success into reality.

Yeah, I think beating Miami would have helped a lot with ticket sales, but alas. I hope it's at least respectable for NC State and Syracuse.

IMHO, we need to get past the Miami game and seize the momentum from the publicity itself.

So, my math is ok i guess. But it appears that we were the lowest rated GameDay broadcast. Next to when they went to South Carolina. Still, its an achievement for us that they even came out here. The reason College GameDay is doing so well is Pat MacAfee. We may never see Lee again. lol

We're No. 3 behind the Ireland and South Carolina. But the Ireland one doesn't really count because it's Week 0.

thats probably OK. Hard to beat Alabama Georgia and Oregon Ohio State viewers, those are two top 5 matchups. We need to get ourselves back into the top 25 consistently to have any draw

Indeed, those are GameDay shows tied to much bigger games.

It also seems like these different weeks are not that far apart in terms of ratings, so I wouldn't be too worried about it. Either way the program got a big visibility boost from it.

Oregon-Ohio State had 10.2 million viewers. SNL, which aired afterwards, had nearly 6 million viewers, its biggest viewership in more than 3 years.

yup. we just need to work on this incrementally. Currently our peers we are compared to are Arizona State, Arizona, BYU, Utah, Pitt, Syracuse, West Virginia and that lot. We need to show better than them to get a shot to make it into the final iteration of the super league.

This season has showed well so far. Almost every game is on ESPN or ESPN2 and we are averaging 1 to 2M in all of those.

That's why Wilcox's failures is such a gut punch. Could have been a special "first season" in the league, after all, you only get a maiden season once. But nevertheless, i can promise you this, with calgorithm , we are no longer the most forgotten about college fb team

I am okay with incremental progress.
We can breath again.
We've been bottled up in the PAC 12 backwater-
Hmmm, I wonder who would benefit from our recruiting being hobbled? $C?
Hmmm... who had the inside track with LA media and was virtual ruler of the PAC 12?
It's becoming clear to me that we and the other PAC 12 schools were bamboozled to believe that our mediocrity was inevitable.
It's becoming clear to me that the Commie California image has been leveraged to our disadvantage as an athletics program.
It would not surprise in the least that as the knots unravel we discover how buried we have been.
Imagine something into reality can work both ways.
Breathing, again.

It's clear to me that $C plan was to leave Calfurd bereft of any recruiting advantages.
It was in their best interest to have not just Southern California, but Northern as well as their exclusive domain.
They had hoped we would find no P5 safe harbor.
It's clear, now, what we've been missing media-wise.
It would be justice for our fortunes to reverse.
We've got business to settle with $C and FUCLA!

we were never their competition for California talent, given how bad of a recruiter Wilcox is. It was always Oregon and Washington which is why USC really didn't want to let them into the B1G

When you say "never," I think people are not schooled up on Cal in the 70s. Mike White had a Hell of a good team. Honestly, we can blame it all on Wilcox, but there's always been interference, especially by $C, in PAC 12 politics.
Here's to our rebuilding brand.
It's happening.

Last year they got 9 million for one of those! Yeah, it's a pretty crazy fascination people have with him.

The Cal-Pitt number is respectable enough. That game was up against some tough competition (Red River Rivalry, Stanford at Notre Dame).

Wouldn't GameDay attendance or viewership be higher to the extent that GameDay starting time was closer to the starting time for the game? So a starting GameDay time of 9 a.m. would be closer to the games starting time in the midwest and east. Taking that factor into account makes our GameDay attendance or viewership makes look better.

Oregon's game was starting at 4:30p local time, well after their GameDay was over. Their crowd looked just about as big as Cal's. I think people just show up for it.

Game Day is awesome.

Cal simply needs to win more games, and win important games. We filled the stadium during JT, even when Memorial was bigger and people watched our games. I think McAfee and Herbie will want to come back if we start winning.
