I don't think he kicked him off. Are you saying they told him his services were not needed?

Even an average offensive line and we are 6-0. We lead the country in sacks allowed and our running game is pathetic, even with a bunch of talented tailbacks.

Well, looks like we lost. I didn't watch the game. Was out on the field all day. Looks like the same ol thing though: Wilcox bad decisionmaking. Glad I didn't watch. Saves me alot of pain and frustration.

What happened at the end? Block? Bad snap? Or did he just straight miss it?

Just straight missed it.

And of course Wilcox called for three straight runs into the line (taking Mendoza off the field for the last one) and a 40-yard kick while Cal was rolling down the field and could have scored TD. The miss was destined to happen.
And it's not like a 40 yard FG is a sure thing with a good kicker. Mendoza has been picking up the intermediate passes all game and you don't let him try? That's criminal.

Is there a better metaphor for "hell on Earth" than being a Cal football fan? Since 1968 minus a few Tedford/Snyder years, it's been like this. We are Cal, the definition of hapless. I just don't see how this ever changes.

The difference is that for a lot of those other years, we didn't have the talent and just got blown out a lot. Right now we clearly have the talent. Not good enough to win the conference or anything, but to be better than .500 yes. And it's being wasted in losses that were entirely winnable.

We have talent just not at arguably the most important unit on the team...the OL. Maybe the missing players are all Americans but I've read that here before.

Yes, but the skill position talent is good enough to play around it to some degree. We saw OSU and WSU pull it off in the Pac for years. It's just that they played aggressively because they knew they had to and Wilcox does not.

If you need every position on the roster to be perfect for a coach to win, then you probably just need a new coach.

He ran off a good kicker for this guy.
Per ESPN, Bhaghani is 9/10 on FGs this season, including 2/3 from 40+. I believe he wanted to stay at Cal, but we wouldn't give him a scholarship. Great decision . . .

Clock management only matters in the final two minutes of the game we stopped putting our foot on the gas pedal at around four minutes. It made no sense that we would stop and settle for a field goal when we did.

Play for the TD and settle for a FG not position yourself for 3 points on 3rd down.

A small NIL and he's still here and we're maybe 6-0

Maybe try Rogers from here on out. Fernando makes some questionable decisions quite often.
What about Rogers' play inspires any confidence?
A change up. Just to see what he can do.

Thinking changing QBs will change something is the refuge of the dimwitted. It's so rare it that people will cite examples from generations ago to show it can happen.

You sound like the ****** ducktilldeath.

He was pretty good at N Texas and has a lot of experience. This atrocious OL is killing Fernando and he will get hurt eventually. I love Fernando, but he's not mobile and can't evade pressure. Roger's mobility may ease the pressure on this crappy OL and Bloech can open the playbook more. Wilcox and co still need to be fired, however.

At North Texas he was OC for what, one year? And their HC was a great OC and he had a more senior "Co-OC". It is like saying Sirmon was a great DC his first year with DeReuyter and Wilcox sharing the room with him.

Is anyone ever going to ask Wiclox about this in a presser and make him publicly acknowledge his massive mistake?

They never do and they let him get away with we need to play better and coach better and learn how to win. But if he can't identify the mistake or what cost the win, then he can't change it.

There was no postgame interview with Wilcox on KGO radio. I don't remember that ever happening before. Was he too pissed off to speak? Was he already fired? Or was it just some innocent logistical problem?

To be clear, I was talking about the mistake of getting rid of Bhaghani. But yeah asking about the end of game "strategy" would be good too. Guess I should've said mistakes plural.

Anyways not having the guts to "face" even our complicit press corps is even more damning evidence he doesn't have the balls for the job.

Look if you wanna play blame I think you have to look at the offensive line Coach. I know that the unit is depleted, but when you have penalties for hands to the face. When you have this many false starts. There's something wrong. Offensive line should know exactly when the snap is coming regardless of what is going on around them or who is stunting or pretending to blitz pick up your assignments. Talk to each other and keep your quarterback on his feet.

We don't have one. We have half of one. And half of an OC, and they the same half person. And that half OC insists on finding ways to get the guy he really wanted to be QB, into the game, no matter what. And while Rogers probably isn't just in there to run into the pile and telegraph the play, the reality is that these switches destroy momentum and ruin drives. Not his fault. It's all on the coaches. If we had a decent Oline, MAYBE this idea works and Rogers has some time to find an open man, but when he's in, everyone assumes a run, they blow through our weak line with just modest pressure, and our ONLY decision is for Rogers to run at that point; which is why it's stupid, except for that totally unexpected first time against Miami. Now it's just a dumb idea, and he keeps doing it!

Also, what the hell is our returner doing not stepping up to catch a punt with 50 seconds left? Scared to catch? That's because the head coach is scared to win, and it has rubbed off. And also because there's no special teams coach at all. This hot mess is all on Wilcox.

I just noticed something:

+ We have two DB coaches and our DBs play well
+ We have an O-line coach who doubles as the OC and out O-line plays like crap
+ We have special-teams-coach-by-committee, and our special teams play like crap

probably a coincidence though

Our placekicking sucks because Coe sucks at it otherwise special teams have been decent (kickoffs, returns, etc.), our placekicker from last year ran off because we did not cough up any NIL and now we're the worst team in the country at field goals...

I only mention this because if we still had Baghani we may have enough kicks such that the loss column is still empty and the OL issues take on less importance, and this is all because of Wilcox
