I think he has it a little closer than that. Did you take Sagarin's Home Field factor into account?

Sagarin's use of an average home field advantage for all of college football may overstate Cal as a road team (and understate Cal as a home team) if Cal's home field advantage/disadvantage is greater than the average.

The encouraging thing is Cal is ranked better in Recent and even better in Strong Recent vs Predictor indicating we are improving as a team. This is the opposite of last year. The early loss to FSU is looking especially bad.

Cal minus the points and the under is the way to go.
