They are showing the Big Game as "sold out" with tarps in place when people are trying to buy tickets? Do we need any more examples of AD/Learfield incompetence? Idiots.

We should advocate for more tarps so the AD does the opposite.

I mentioned this a few months ago while kvetching about the tarps in a different thread, but I wonder how much time and effort it takes to disassemble the hideous Bear Territory platform and remove the tarps. I would think the tarps wouldn't be much effort, but the platform might take some real work.

How I wish they'd remove the whole eyesore once and for all and restore John Galen Howard's masterpiece in all of its glory. We have one of the loveliest bowl stadiums in the world, and we insist on defacing it with the tarps and platform. The whole setup is akin to putting a tramp stamp on a young Christie Brinkley.

Do better, Cal Athletics. OK, let's be realistic: Please fix it Sebasta and other saviors of Cal football.

They probably already sold the cliff seats and need the buffer on the sides

It's a way to hide the fact that we can't sell tickets by acting like we have a special luxury box or something.

It sold out because its not at night. First sell out in a while. But i guess since its not at night it will still have low energy and no students.

is not at night

Anyone catch the Wake Forest end zone seats - basically just grass where it looks like people can sit and picnic. Looked like a great way to watch the game.
Give to Cal Legends!

https://calegends.com/donation/ Do it now. Text every Cal fan you know, give them the link, tell them how much you gave, and ask them to text every Cal fan they know and do the same.

Yes! That looked awesome.

They could put chairbacks in that end zone and sell them st a reasonable price. I bet they would sell out, if priced and marketed right. Some would give up side line view to be comfortable.

What do you think? Bench backs in cheaper sidelines seem always full

But is the game really sold out?

If you go to Seat Geek, there are entire rows available in various sections. Did people really buy entire rows to resell, or are those actually being sold by Cal, through SeatGeek?

And if Cal is selling them through SeatGeek, why claim it's a sellout and not also sell though seats through the ticket office. I'm confused.

Closet selling to make more money after creating artificial shortage. They have done this before.

This is fraudulent if true. And plenty of cause to get rid of all of these clowns once and for all. A Christmas miracle.

Edit

Or maybe there's a reasonable explanation

its one thing to claim tickets are "going fast" or in "limited supply." time proven sentences which can increase demand, even if you're stretching the truth a bit

but saying they're sold out when they aren't is simply a dumb thing to do. whatever your potential market is, at least some % who might otherwise have been interested won't bother checking if they hear its sold out.

Makes sense to me. The only other possibility is scalpers buying huge blocks to try to double the price and make money. But since the big Game rarely sells out, they would be taking a huge risk. We really don't know but can only guess .mi still think its wrong to declare a sell out when 1000 tickets for sale in the secondary market.

one presumes empty seats like that are due to beaver's *success* selling lots of season tickets waay earlier.

It's going to be absolutely full for the Big Game. The last two times the ATO claimed a sellout (Miami this year and the Big Game in 2022), there were still tons of seats available on calbears.com. This time there are no tickets available on calbears.com - instead there is that link to seat geek.

The Cal Football Info Guide lists the capacity of CMS as 52428. Which is a completely made up number, because after the rebuild, the capacity was 63k and the tarped off sections are at most 6k.

https://calbears.com/documents/2024/8/28/2024_Cal_Football_Info_Guide.pdf

Tarps are not coming off because that large ugly platform thing blocks most of those seats and the seats in it have been sold as some knd of premium outdoor terrace seats.

To be honest, as much as we bag on furd for sizing down their stadium so much, I think Cal should have targeted 55k or so for the new stadium capacity and built more chairbacks/benchbacks with extra legroom to give more incentive to be a season ticket holder. And possibly built some less obtrusive 'terrace boxes' in the high end zones, making the least desirable spaces have some kind of extra appeal.

Schools like Utah, Oregon, Colorado are quite successful with stadiums in the mid to low 50k capacities, and their stadium footprints are actually bigger - as in their seating rows are not as close together. ASU also just downsized their capacity from 70k+ to 53k keeping the same footprint.

Yes! That looked awesome.
And it looked to me like they had food trucks set up just behind the grass area. That's a win-win.
