I'm just happy that I coined 'Mendoza March' and it's already caught on. Disclaimer: yes I know it's not that creative and someone else would've come up with it.

I'll never get credit but for the rest of my life, I'll know. It's my Cal fan badge of honor. Alright, enough patting myself on the back; enjoy the win everyone!

An entire Stanford undergrad class will graduate without ever having seen their team win the Big Game and us rushing the field annually. Most of them probably don't even know or care but it means something to me

It means something to me, too! I was on the other end of that, since Holmoe was the HC at Cal during all four of my undergraduate years..

Me too. In my four years, we lost all 4 football games and 7 straight bball games. My senior year we finally beat furd in bball and we were all so happy we rushed the court. And I remember distinctly, posters on this board were giving us students **** for rushing the court.

As a minor aside, it was great to see the numerous TV shots of a packed-full stadium, especially after some/most/all of the sparsely-attended games this year. I confess it gave me a warm feeling to see a full CMS for Big Game, like it should always be.

I have no idea what it's like to experience a Cal victory over the Furd in men's basketball as an undergraduate. Cal lost all eight of those games during my student years.

Memorial Stadium is a gorgeous stadium with breathtaking views. Unfortunately, the on-field product hasn't always lived up to the environs.

Monty was the bane of my Cal basketball fandom. Until he came across the Bay and redeemed himself by coaching at Cal. Then he became my standard by which to judge Cal basketball coaches.

People on this board think "Bear territory" should only be a chant at home.

Remember the people here are on a spectrum with people like that at one end.

I grossly underestimated how much emotion I would feel at a full Memorial and a Cal win in an exciting Big Game. I'm an old, jaded Cal and sports in general fan but it was great to see. An interesting side note is that I somehow focused on Ott at the end. He ran off the field immediately and into the tunnel alone. Don't know what that was about.

Since like 2005 Cal fans alone have been why the Big Game sells out. It's pretty wild to remember when Cal filled 80% of the old Furd stadium. Iirc that was the year I walked out with a chunk of turf and a 10 foot 4x6 from the benches.

went to the citrus bowl new years day game and he was magnificent. clemson fans were very respectful after the game. one guy told me: "y'all are really good. we thought your team was just a bunch of little asians." yeah, i know, but he meant it as a complement.

I hear you. It's been years (about a decade?) since I visited Cal. The last time I was there, I started to get a little choked up. Cal really is a unique and wonderful place.

As for Jaydn, I hope it was just so he could begin treatment on whatever injuries that are still bothering him. He clearly hasn't been 100% in the vast majority of the games he's played this year.

At Furd Monty was the biggest ref baiting whiny little b@itch in the conference and I hated him…..until he became our ref baiting whiny little b@itch and then I loved him.

The Cal v UW game was epic that year. Even though Cal lost they actually were ranked higher AFTER that game.

Monty is still the best (and most successful) basketball coach Cal has had in my Cal fandom. Hopefully, Madsen will change that and lead the bears on a number if deep tourney runs (and to victories in a number of NCAA championship games!).

If this was the 4th game of the year it might be concerning Cal needed such a big comeback to beat Stanford but at this point of the season all that matters is wins so great job every and I am so glad the seniors get to experience this and a bowl trip! They deserve it.

God I hate hearing students say what what bear territory.

The call and response needs to be revised, because as a chant it sucks ass now.

Maybe

A: You know it
B: I know
A: You tell the story
B: The story
A&B: Tell the whole damn world this is bear territory.

Or drop the preamble.

But *********does it sound terrible the way it's done now.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was Ott's last game at Memorial. He needs to do two things if he's going to make it to the next level - he needs to get healthy, and he needs to have a year running behind a better O-line. I'd expect him to portal in hopes of finding a better run game program. But who knows?
I can't help but wonder if Ott came back too soon from his injury, and that kept him from actually recovering from it?
I haven't paid much attention this year, so maybe i'm missing something.

Yep. For me it's Cal football. I commuted to Cal. The campus holds no special memories for me. I feel nothing when I walk through it. I never went to a frat or sorority party. Those places mean absolutely nothing to me. I played baseball a bit at Cal. Watching a Cal baseball game...not much. Basketball...nah. But football at Memorial, especially when we are good, is wonderful for me. I went to games by myself when I was a student, drive over from SF. Always worried about school, Memorial and Cal football took that away. It especially took it away the few times we were good or at least gave the hope of being good. (Anybody remember Gale Gilbert beautifully running Mouse Davis' Run and Shoot for a quarter and a half before suffering a season ending knee injury?) That Mad Men edit was beautiful. The Tedford/Rodgers years were awesome. The last few Snyder years, same. Took away a lot of family, work, finance worries for 3+ hours. Yesterday's fourth quarter took away a lot of apathy I now have about sports, and the world for that matter. It took me completely by surprise.

A big shout out to the Stanford defensive back who gave Cal about 30 yards of penalties

Actually Nicholson's second PI was nullified by a Cal penalty for illegal man downfield. So he only gave us 15 yards. Pretty important 15 yards, though. Moved the ball from the two to the 17.
Hey did anyone notice what Daniels was complaining about after his fourth down incompletion? I believe he thought there should have been a defensive holding penalty against Nohl Williams, who got tangled up with the tight end on the left, away from where Daniel's was forced to throw.

Now I see on the replay that TWO Stanford receivers went down on the play. But no flags, so too too bad. Ha ha!

I think it was a valid complaint for the receiver running deep down the middle (not sure who it was), they definitely could have flagged for holding there.

But at that point Daniels was already under pressure and running for his life, so the officials were understandably a bit distracted by that.

Yes, Cal got the benefit of PI on the opening throw of the 98-yard-with-the-boys drive, but that was one of the clearest examples of a "forced" PI I've ever seen. Mendoza saw his guy with an advantage going deep against Furd's weaker DB and took a shot. It was a smart move and got the intended result.

Exactly. It wasn't just good luck that we got the PI call. It was earned. As was the next one that got nullified by the offsetting penalty on us.

For years Harbaugh and Shaw used "PI as a strategy" so it's karma.

No idea how we won that but I'm super glad we did. Stanford switched off. 4th quarter was total domination. I think they must have thought the game was won.

Hate the staredown. But we keep the Axe.

Bears' D woke up from the 2nd half of the 3rd qtr on. Sirmon's halftime adjustments didn't show up immediately, but they started bringing more pressures in the 2nd half and completely shut down furd's QB, and outscored furd 17-7 in the 2nd half. The defense bowed up after that 2nd-half-opening furd TD, and blanked them the rest of the way!

The last play of the drive, the td pass to Brady, was yet another called PI, too, but obviously declined as we scored. They got desperate. Glad the officiating was fair. We could have been flagged for pi on furd's final drove but didn't, and Brady could have been whistled for taunting but wasn't. Normally, cal gets screwed there, both times.

I think that was Hunter who was (borderline) taunting.
