Jaivian Thomas and Cade Uluave both coming back and forgoing the portal. Jaydn Ott rumored to be coming back, and Marshall and Benji are buzzing over a flurry of apparent commitments over the last day+, I counted about 5 posts from Marshall which means we should have some more good news on the way

Two OL's? TWO? When we need 5...every year?
They will add several from the portal. At least 4 IMO maybe 5.
So far, I am not impressed with portal OL's, ours at least. I hope it'll be different this year with a professional O coaching staff.
The best portal OL recruit I can recall was Barrett Miller in 2023. He was a guard at Stanford, but played LT at Cal and did a pretty good job. The other portal recruits on the OL have been pretty mediocre, and frequent penalty generators.

As far as HS OL recruits, I think the jury is out on Nick Morrow. He may have put on 50 lbs, but he still looks overmatched at times. I've wondered whether they would have been better off leaving him at his natural weight of 250 lbs and turning him into a linebacker. Remember Ted "Mad Stork" Hendricks for the Raiders? Morrow might have become that kind of guy.

Miller was "okay". I hope his brother turns out at least as good, but he needs work.
McDonald seemed to have some nasty in him; I liked that. A guy that could be on an All-Madden Team.
Session had one good season out of three, but at least he had that one.
Reimer: approached halfway decent... seemed to be his number they were calling on a lot of the flags.
Wykoff: was just never the player we had hoped he would be.

Vatikani: does this guy want to get in one good year, or what?

A lot of hope riding on Morrow and Williams.
Wasn't Ramsey a four-star as a prep? Something's amiss in our evals and our development.

We need a ****ing Larry Allen at guard. Who's the last really good guard we've had?

The official post, I'm just adding on. 6-1 and 290lb IOL, (apparently 6-3 and 300lbs now) likely an OG. Feels good to flip from Stanford after all the BS they've pulled with our recruits over the years

not positive, but I think Mekari played guard at Cal?
The think with Morrow and Williams isn't about how they performed this year, it's how they things play out as they add size to huge frames. Not saying that both or either are going to be great, but the big mistake was that Cal couldn't recruit well enough so that they could be in back up roles as redshirt freshmen.

3rd OL transfer in 24 hours, Famika Anae hit the ground running. Lamar Robinson is a 6-2 and 305lbs OG (all our OL transfers are 300+ which is a huge upgrade already, we had one of the smallest OLs I've ever seen in a power conference last year) and he reportedly had lots of interest from Power 4 schools before deciding to transfer to Cal from Georgia State

I think in college, an average OL can be built with a good S&C coach and a good O-Line coach which can improve kids enough to be solid in college.

Other than maybe 20 ish teams, an average O-line won't expose you too much which is a big improvement for Cal!

cal's monster offensive line recruiting update:

new o-line coach famika anae is gonna official trip mississippi state grad transfer 6'8" 325 lbs leon bell from alivn texas (also graduated from powerhouse kilgore community college) who got 2 years of remaining eligiblity

bell started a couple of games for the bulldogs in the sec at right tackle before leaving the program to focus on his academics

this is a grown azz man with intellectual curiosity & would compete for a starting position in berkeley on day 1

https://instagr.am/p/CwuoXuXAyNC
leon, after growing up in nasty humid azz texas & going to school in the kinda racist deep south (louisville is just more of that ****), do u wanna have an adventure in ideal weather beautiful cali on the left coast??

fun fact: reese gotta good PONYTAIL not devin

the 2025 qb1 is gonna be former high school all american & ohio state buckeye 6'3" 212 lbs devin brown!!...brown got 2 years of remaining eligiblity

shocky saw devin play back in the day at queen creek high school with ELITE arm strength & delivers a catchable ball with a decisive clean motion who works thru his progressions with a high football iq & that can make tough yards if necessary with his legs with physical aggression...in high school he passed for an unreal 8,000+ yards & 85 touchdowns in highly competitive leagues

devin is NOT a dumb azz, he gotta 4.4 gpa & an all academic big 10 honoree

if u don't got season tix(s) for the bears 2025 season ur gonna miss something special!!

in bryan harsin we TRUST#

He will have 3 years of eligibility, no? The new NCAA ruling for players who were at JC's or nin-NCAA schools is to have an additional year of eligibility granted.

I'd like to see the program re-establish the tradition of sending quarterbacks to the NFL early. I've would love to see him declare for the draft in two years and have another quarterback waiting in the wings. One thing that we've seen over the last decade is that we need quality backups ready to go whenever they're called.
