Norvell gives his salary back a year after an undefeated regular season because he's worried about his job.

Unfortunately Wilcox wins just enough games to keep his job. We needed a winless season or two, not 5-7 seasons in perpetuity.

Good question for Knowlton - how many losing seasons does it take to fire a coach?

Stop looking at the glass half-empty.

Wilcox is 18-4 in regular season out of conference games....that's 82%.

Next year, we'll be 4-0 after beating Oregon State, Texas Southern, Minnesota and San Diego State.

That means, we only need to win 2 more games to be bowl eligible.

If you think we're beating anyone other than Texas southern with Wilmoe at the healms I'd like to know where you buy your dmt?
And even Texas southern is a .500 team
Remind me again what Wilmoe's record is against .500 teams?

Wilcox's regular season OOC record:

2017: 3-0
2018: 3-0
2019: 3-0
2021: 1-2
2022: 2-1
2023: 2-1
2024: 4-0

Wilcox has figured out the perfect formula:

1. Dominate the OOC and occasionally beat big-name teams.
2. Have a losing conference record.

The OOC domination is just enough to make him look like a good coach as he limps through the rest of the season.

We'll see it play out again next year.

Have you seen Minnesota play this year and their portal class so far? No way Cal beats them.

The odd thing is that the new ACC schedule should have been like a whole season of OOC. It's not like all of these teams have a "book" on Cal yet. And yet it played out the same way it did in the Pac-12.

its because our OOC opponents sucked. Davis FCS. SDSU and OSU are mid majors that went a combined 8-16. Auburn is the only major conference opponent - we barely hung on despite them throwing 5 picks. And they sucked too, finishing 14th in a 16 team conference.

In conference we went 2-1 against teams worse than us (with the obligatory giving someone their only win game) and winless against everyone else.

The only outliers of any kind this year were Auburn and FSU. Auburn took a ridiculous number of turnovers to win by 1 score (they threw 5 picks against us and 8 picks in their other 11 games). FSU took some Wilcoxian special teams to lose by 1 score. Everything else was a bad team that beat worse teams and lost to better teams.

Unfortunately, I have to agree.

JMO, but PJ Fleck is a more successful version of Wilcox.

Defense allows only 17.5 ppg (12th in the nation)

The Gophers will have a question mark at QB. Fleck took a chance on Max Brosmer, who transferred in from New Hampshire. He started slow but is really doing well.....opening up the offense. However, he is out of
eligibility.

Minnesota plays Virginia Tech in something called the Duke's Mayo Bowl.

It all goes back to Carol Christ, She didn't want us to go the route of the new college professional sports, and probably didn't think we would have the money to succeed in this new format. So she decided to drop us down as quickly as possible with contract extensions for an incompetent AD and useless football coach. Her end goal was a UC Davis-level athletic program, and that is where we are now heading. I don't see how Lyons can undo this.

This is a myth and I think you guys need to understand this reality. Cal doesn't fire revenue coaches for being kinda sorta not good enough. I'd argue that Cal has never done that in the modern era in football or mens basketball. Dykes got fired because he ticked off the AD by bad mouthing Cal and openly looking for a new job. And let's face it. Dykes wanted to get fired. Bozeman got fired for a massive scandal. White got fired because they were afraid we were heading toward sanctions. Other than those three, everyone gets fired only when the team utterly gives up on them or mutinies. Tedford, Holmoe, Gilby, Kapp, Theder. Fox, Jones, Braun, Campanelli, Kuchen. (Older timers than me I think could reach further back in history on this). None of them got fired for being mediocre. None got fired for being bad. They got fired for total catastrophe

Tom Holmoe went 9-23 in conference his first four years and 15-29 overall and did not get fired. It took 10 straight bad losses and completely cratered attendance to get him out.

Given how unchallenging our new conference is and the usual crap we play out of conference, there is absolutely no reason to think Wilcox is ever going to get fired. He doesn't win just enough. He wins enough with plenty of cushion.

This is exactly my point. A bunch of 5-7 (or 4-8 and 3-9) seasons aren't enough. We need winless seasons.

Fans have no tolerance as evidenced by game attendance. Admin and sunshine pumpers online have infinite tolerance. They get more joy from branding the rest of us as disloyal than they do from the program itself.

If this was what Christ wanted, why did she even bother accepting an offer into the ACC?

Meanwhile UC Davis is moving up in the athletic world. Perhaps one day we will switch places with them. Moreover, despite his rhetoric, I don't know if Lyons wants to undo this.

And once there (having lost our most talented scholar athletes) we will still be mediocre.

There's zero proof Lyons is anything more than a cheerleader. He talks a good game, but I've yet to see anything indicating he has the stones to make the hard decisions needed to turn this program around.

I couldn't agree more.
If my grandfathers (one a 4 year basketball letterman under stubs, and the other a letterman in track and field, regent, and uc attorney) were still alive they'd be raising serious hell right now.
This situation is absolutely unacceptable as is the apathetic explanation for it.
We are one of a small group of schools with natties in basketball and football (I don't care how long ago it was We're in a select group) and we deserve a whole lot better than this. And until someone on the board or locally (aka Lyons) steps up I will keep causing a massive ruckus. It's unacceptable plain and simple.
If they're avoiding the Knowlton issue because they think it proves they're culpable as well for mckeever then guess what? They're already culpable in the eyes of the law so why avoid firing a crappy ad and a crappy coach?
