Unfortunately Wilcox wins just enough games to keep his job. We needed a winless season or two, not 5-7 seasons in perpetuity.
This is a myth and I think you guys need to understand this reality. Cal doesn't fire revenue coaches for being kinda sorta not good enough. I'd argue that Cal has never done that in the modern era in football or mens basketball. Dykes got fired because he ticked off the AD by bad mouthing Cal and openly looking for a new job. And let's face it. Dykes wanted to get fired. Bozeman got fired for a massive scandal. White got fired because they were afraid we were heading toward sanctions. Other than those three, everyone gets fired only when the team utterly gives up on them or mutinies. Tedford, Holmoe, Gilby, Kapp, Theder. Fox, Jones, Braun, Campanelli, Kuchen. (Older timers than me I think could reach further back in history on this). None of them got fired for being mediocre. None got fired for being bad. They got fired for total catastrophe
Tom Holmoe went 9-23 in conference his first four years and 15-29 overall and did not get fired. It took 10 straight bad losses and completely cratered attendance to get him out.
Given how unchallenging our new conference is and the usual crap we play out of conference, there is absolutely no reason to think Wilcox is ever going to get fired. He doesn't win just enough. He wins enough with plenty of cushion.
