Unless someone with deep pockets steps up, it is too expensive to get rid of Knowlton and Wilcox. Cal is in a real bind. We are losing lots of money with the current leadership, but need upfront cash to get rid of them.

Watching Wilcox standing around by himself 30 yards away from the team last night when Ott was trying to motivate the guys was just awful. I can't believe this clown is representing our university.

CJ was fired after one season as a RB coach at Rice. That was in 2022. Not sure what he has done since then. If he wants a job he needs to put in the work and prove his coaching credentials. Would love to see him back at Cal someday
that's why I'm against all this bashing of Mendoza. He's not giving up on Cal, he's giving up on having a meaningful collegiate career with this loser as HC for the foreseeable future01Bear said:Calfan92 said:

Like I said before, he lost the team. The players will play for one another but not the coaching staff.

The problem is that the campus currently has a huge deficit. The stadium debt has had a negative impact on morale for faculty and staff and that makes it difficult to get support for a buyout of contracts for coaches and athletic directors. The campus is suffering from years of deferred maintenance, so the buildings have leaks when it rains, and failing temperature control systems, etc., etc., etc.ncbears said:Isn't it too expensive to not get rid of Knowlton and Wilcox?GoCal80 said:

Ah yes, the other board which was so convinced Mendoza was staying that they were blindsided by him leaving. And now they are suddenly uncovering so much dirt on the situation.CNHTH said:DoubtfulBear said:According to some he said she said rumors? I'm pretty sure Sebasta gave an account of what happened on the other board.
And the call to JKS and the involvement in Harsin then flu and gone was ***** baggery to the umpteenth degree if true and I was the biggest Mendoza advocate of all…

I do not believe that the comments were about the culture or coaching at Cal. At least that was the innuendo. Turning the point to to further a deeply seated desire to fire the coach may be understandable, but it is still disingenuous.01Bear said:LA Bowl Bear said:People who weren't in the room when all of this stuff was happening only know what they are told. My loyalties lie with Cal. I'm grateful for Sebasta's efforts to get Cal the players the coaching staff desires. Sure, sometimes the players don't pan out or Cal whiffs on the players the coaches want. But Sebasta and the Cal Legends Collective are putting in the work to make Cal better. For that, they should be commended.
That said, the coaching has been subpar (to put it kindly), especially on offense. I can't blame players with NFL aspirations for choosing to pursue their dreams elsewhere if the coaching has been this bad. I don't fault Nando for seeking better coaching and a better offense elsewhere.
As for the comments about Nando sabotaging the JKS signing, like I said before, it's not that bad IMHO. He was being truthful about how bad the Cal football program is under Wilsux and company. Whether he should have been (or needed to be) is irrelevant especially as he just confirmed what many of us have been saying for years in this forum about how bad Wilsux is as a coach and how his offenses have been horrible (with the possible exception of the Spav year--and even then, it's been stated that Wilsux drove off Spav from the staff for running an effective offense that kept Wilsux's defense off the field more than Wilsux preferred).

If we would significantly reduce the size of our bloated administration, we'd have money to address some of the issues you mentioned.

Amen!

Also, if we could replace mindless functionaries who refuse to do the jobs for which they were hired (e.g., market the Cal football game experience, increase interest in Cal football), that would be helpful. Bring in competent people who will do the job and thus increase the athletic department's revenue through increased ticket sales and licensed paraphernalia sales.

Like I said, I don't know what Sebasta wrote. I'm merely drawing conclusions based on what others have said about what he wrote. From that, it appeared the big gripe was that Nando warned JKS off from signing with Cal. Let's assume it was Nando marking his territory and telling JKS that the latter would never start ahead of him, that's not a problem for me, at all. It show the type of competitive fire and swagger I want to see in Cal's starting QB.
As for the claim my post was disingenuous, that's a laugh! As I mentioned before, I was drawing conclusions about what Sebasta wrote based on what others commented. As such, I could only surmise what Nando's comments were. In my previous post, I mentioned that it seemed (to me) the crus of the Nando criticism was that he gave JKS an honest assessment of Wilsux's craptastic coaching and how that meant Cal's football program wouldn't be able to springboard anyone (on offense) into the NFL. From your comment, I take it that was not the criticism of Nando.
Your attempt to claim my previous statement was disingenuous, though, is ironic as your post is actually being disingenuous in its attempt to defend Wilsux. If you want to defend Wilsux and claim he's a good coach, have at it. But based on his eight years of mediocre results and losing record at Cal, you've got a tough argument.

If only that was the case, then it would be easier to swallow. Unfortunately, what he purportedly did went far beyond that. It wasn't rooted in altruism towards JKS, but it didn't seem like it was rooted in vengeance against our program either. Strangely, that just makes it worse IMO.
I'm with you 01. I'm not sure what Fernando's "crime" was as the post on the Insider Board was heavily edited before I signed up (and paid for a full year), so all I could do is conjecture from innuendo. What I do know is that Fernando literally sacriiced his body for the team. I'm grateful for the 98 yards and other achievements. The pity is that Wilcox finally got quality offense coaches.01Bear said:pingpong2 said:

Thanks. It seems like I drew another erroneous conclusion.
