Bears Sign Ohio State QB2 Devin Brown

The Bears made official one of their top offseason targets today with the signing of Ohio State Buckeyes primary backup QB Devin Brown‍ the day after the Buckeyes earned the National Championship with a 34-23 win over Notre Dame.

Brown spent three seasons at Ohio State, narrowly losing out the QB1 spot to Kyle McCord in 2023 and Will Howard this season - both two of the top QBs int he nation.

Brown originally committed to USC in 2022 after starring at Corner Canyon High School in Draper, Utah, leading his squad to the state championship game his senior season before flipping to the Buckeyes and signing with Ohio State. He started his prep career at Queen Creek High School in Gilbert, AZ before transferring his senior season. He was rated a consensus 4 star and as high as the #4 pro style QB in his class. He chose the Buckeyes over Notre Dame, Texas, Ole MIss, Wisconsin and more before settling on OSU. He completed 254-of-372 (68%) passes for 4,881 yards and 57 TDs and 14 INTs in his prolific senior season for the state runnerup. 

Though he was the primary backup, Brown did see the field a decent amount at Ohio State, completing 11-of-20 passes in 2024 with a TD and 27-of-48 passes for 331 yards and 3 TDs with with 1 INT in his collegiate career in 17 games.

The 6-3/210 Brown will have two seasons of eligibility for the Bears and has enrolled immediately. He’ll participate in spring ball for the Bears and will compete with 5 star prep QB Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele‍, soph College of San Mateo transfer Dominic Ingrassia and redshirt frosh QB EJ Caminong‍ for the starting slot at Cal.

Brown’s addition completed a near-total reworking of the QB room with only Caminong returning after the departure of QBs Fernando Mendoza, Chandler Rogers and CJ Harris through the transfer portal.

Brown becomes the Bears’ 20^th spring portal signee of the 2025 portal recruiting class for the Bears.
