If that is your goal, why bother as it makes 6 or 7 acceptable

If you dont aim high you almost never get a fantastic result

It was pretty defeatist, imo, too. The incremental goal of "growth" is not good enough. This is our last chance. 8 is the floor, it should not be the goal and it should not be a measure of a successful season. A successful season is 10 wins or more.

Maybe I have missed something.
Chancellor Lyons has already said several times 6 or 7 wins IS NOT acceptable.
Ron Rivera's comment that 8 or 9 wins is an acceptable next step for this 2025 season

Everything else that I have read says the Lyons and Rivera want Cal to compete for the ACC championship
I take those statements to mean tha JW gets fired if he doesn't have at least 8 or 9 wins THIS YEAR.

I am not hearing ANYONE saying that 6 or 7 wins are acceptable

Yes we want Cal to compete for the Championship on a regular basis. But are the people in charge must have realistic goals as to what constitute realistic floor for 2025.

Agreed. Sounded better than it actually was. It has been 8 years of 4-8 to 7-5 regular seasons for JW. The schedule is very manageable this year - we don't have to play Clemson or Miami. First of all, I would start with a winning conference season (we never even been .500 under JW) and go from there. Second, there is no need to cap the wins right now -- talk about winning the conference or at least getting to the conference championship game. SMU did it in year 1. The big thing for me is that under JW we have basically been eliminated for the conf championship by late October. Then we have a scratch and claw for a really minor bowl game. That is kind of pathetic. Dream bigger, expect more.
