I understand that Cal and Nike had a falling out under JK who completely botched the entire of the apparel/gear relationship. There has to be a concerted effort to get better options to the Cal fanbase.

Any complaint about weak purchasing has to be responded to with the self fulfilling prophecy of the weak offerings. Just look at the Cal offerings on nike.com:

https://www.nike.com/w/california-golden-bears-b54hd

Then look at the Stanford offerings:

https://www.nike.com/w/stanford-cardinal-5h7eg

The difference in the breadth of options is absolutely ridiculous.

I hope that with RR at the helm and a strong season will push demand for better options.

Other than Reyn Spooner shirts, I haven't bought any Cal gear since the first year of the UA contract when the only element lower than the designs were the quality. Complete crap.

When it comes to apparel, I prefer not wearing plastic. I pretty much only buy cotton (or linen, or in a pinch, rayon) clothing. Unfortunately, much of the Cal apparel I've seen for sale is made of polyester or microfiber. Worse, many's the time I've found an article of clothing which design I like only to see that it's made (at least in part) of plastic.

Also, what happened to fitted caps? Why are the only Cal caps now available for sale snapback or some other adjustable cap? I'd really like to buy a Cal cap with the new block C and one with the (classic) Oski design.

Agree on the Nike dri- fit. It's not great to wear around especially casually.

And while on the hat notion, where are the New Era Cal hats? I'd buy like 5 of em if they made them again. Plus as HOTB says, they make sizes that fit different types of heads., unlike the Nike/UA/random dad/trucker hat company that make a one size fits all.

My brothers and I only wear fitted caps because the Flex fit are too small/tight, and snap backs either don't fit or we have to put them on the last button, which doesn't really work. The arms twist down into a V and feel weird and are not secure. We have been scouring the webs for fitted script Cal hats that have been in our arsenal for what 30, 40 years, but there are none. I too would scoop up the block C hat if they offered a fitted version.

The current offerings are a joke.

Side note about hats: I have never been able to wear to wear trucker hats, which doesn't really bother me, but a few year ago the A's (and now other teams too) began selling a fitted trucker hat, and I actually love it. It's also a topic of conversation and people can't believe that it really is a fitted trucker hat. kinda fun.

EDIT = One bonus to fitted trucker hat, less shrink

I can only wear fitted caps in a museum. As soon as they get wet or sweaty, they shrink and never fit again.

I buy them a step up or so and they last me a lot longer. I don't mind them a little loose partly because other historically have been so tight lol.

Since I got bald on the top back of my head, I quit mesh trucker style hats as they leave a grid of mesh imprints.

I don't know about that. Big C is a valued member of BI and I enjoy his posts, but if we start making special hats to honor him and his hat size, it might go to his head.

LOL, you rang?

On this topic (sort of), I need to get a quality Cal jersey with a certain specific number on it. Not tied to any specific current or former player. How do I do this?

sure, a good offering on nike.com. however, nike team stuff is mainly sold through fanatics (unfortunately). actually shocked how much furd has on nike.com. student store website and fanatics will be the way to go. the institution is to blame for our pathetic fan base (size wise), marketing/branding issues, and the horrible decision to go to under armour previously.

Funny enough I just bought some Cal Nike gear and honestly I am pretty impressed by the quality. Much better than the UA stuff we previously had.

Im personally not a fan of fitted hats and love snapbacks better. The hat I just got feels great on me and is nice and simple.

It's honestly really depressing how limited the options are compared to what the LA schools have. My hope has always been that more wins would lead to us getting back to being a premier brand on the west coast and better merch options. But to see that even Stanford has 60 items on the Nike site is pretty sobering.
ColoradoBear

This Nike talk begs the question of whether Cal is actually a school that is sponsored by Nike or just a client that basically buys goods from Nike (with a potentially reduced price negotiated).

UCLA clothing is a fashion symbol for some weird reason in Asia. Idk how that came to be but it's not unusual to see people there wearing random UCLA clothing around. And U$C is $C. I think that's why there are more options because demand is higher.

I do wish we can become a Jordan brand though. Always felt like Jordan brand stuff looked cleaner and cooler.
