The one correction I would make to what they said is the distinction between Hawaiian and Samoan and their spelling and pronunciation. Keawe is Hawaiian (in the South Pacific they use a V) but Sagapolutele is Samoan. There is no S or G in Hawaiian.

The ESPN+ broadcast vs. Southern Texas was so bad. They couldn't even say JKS correctly most of the time.

At least the color commentator made the effort. Not saying his name is a combination of laziness, convenience and disrespect. Since Sagapouletele is a good guy he says "JKS" is all good.

Spending a few minutes to learn how to spell and say his name is apparently a bridge too far for many people.*

The name is really very easy to pronounce. It's pronounced exactly like it's written. There are just a lot of syllables.

Agree. To just say "JKS" all the time isn't respectful. When he got named the starter, that's when I figured I'd better get up to speed on saying his name.

Golden One: to say it 100% correctly, there is an "n" sound where there is no letter "n". /"songa"/

I thought it should be pronounced "Heis-man"?

My take is that the ACC considered this game not worthy of anything but their lowest ranking announcing team. Now, the announcers might have been glad to have a free trip to the Bay Area, assuming they're from somewhere else. Regardless, they were bad.

Prime Time on ESPN this week (at least on the East Coast). They'll get the story straight. Hopefully lots will tune in and hear it pronounced the correct way.

Someone with more skills than I should produce a video of "Hey announcers. Say My Name. Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele."
I leave it up to those with the skills to use Walter White, Beyonce or Michele in American Pie....

Not entirely. I'm not going to fault someone who doesn't know that Keawe should have the 'v' sound or that Sagapolutele has that 'n' sound early before the g. Those two aspects are not "exactly like it's written."

I agree it's easy once you learn it though.

Can I add, YES more Pawlawski on local broadcasts be it news/sports, game broadcasts, pre and post game shows, review and predictions shows, whatever. I love that he never misses a chance to mention Cal. I have grown so tired of broadcasts of any kind where they can't wait to point out, for example, that "x" number of swimmers on the team went to Stanford, or whatever, meanwhile, the same amount or more went to the other local powerhouse Cal and they don't say squat.

Another example was a few season around 2020 the Oakland A's had a couple of great Golden Bears in Marcus Semien and Mark Canha, a somewhat lesser known pitcher and Bear, Daulton Jeffries and, AND the Manager was Cal legend Bob Melvin. Of course they were mentioned as Bear sometimes, but that local broadcasts would go out there way to say how Seven Piscotti and 1b Coach Mike Aldrete went to Stanford and then not mention that the primary offense in that same game was by a couple of Cal guys used slay me and my bother and even my parents.

Yes, I'm sensitive lol. But not so much that I don't want the Stanford guys mentioned, of course they should be mentioned especially here in the Bay. Just be a good Bay representative and mention both.

I've always found that when in doubt, pronounce every syllable. And, the vowels are pronounced ah, ay, ee, oh, oo.
