If we cannot afford his buyout, can he be demoted to a position he's skilled at? Need an interim HC to salvage the rest of the season. If Cal continues this same path, what top talents will want come/remain here?

Sadly, I don't see JKS coming back.

Somebody with more smarts correct me, but I don't think there is a buyout. Wilcox has a guaranteed contract. We have to pay him his salary each season through the end of his deal, whether he's here or elsewhere.

No reason to demote him, and no incoming new HC would want him around. Better option is to fire him and hope he gets a DC job to defray Cal's salary obligations.

Didn't someone suggest "Holmoeing" Wicox by "promoting" him to AD? The contortions we are willing to go through for this knucklehead bc we irrationally designated him the Messiah because we irrationally designated Dykes the Antichrist (everything Cal despises - Texans, fat, 'gimmick offense' (not BTW), works the refs, bad defenses, etc) is tragicomedy. Oh the pedigree, his dad was even an ex Niner HoF, non confrontational nice guy , avoids carbs. Lmao.

All coaching contracts with buyouts stipulate that any buyout money is reduced by whatever salary the terminated coach receives from employment following a firing

From my google results, it is a word. But I can see why some folks might disagree.

This was a Joke Knownothin contract. I wouldn't be surprised if he neglected to include that clause.

His contract is public information and has been posted here multiple times in the past. It is pretty standard and yes, if the university terminates, his payments for 2026 and 2027 are roughly $5 million per year, but he has an obligation to mitigate by pursuing football jobs with his payments from Cal reduced by whatever he earns elsewhere. Often schools negotiate lower payments or a lump sum payment reduced by an amount to eliminate that clause.

You literally said every coach is it, but now it's "pretty standard"? I was asking a simple question your brilliant CAL mind hasn't been able to answer it. "posted multiple times" isn't an answer.

Well, I was taking "we" as either "the public" or the board collectively. We know because it was posted and most of us read it. I know you are a less frequent visitor so I thought maybe you would take my word for it for the sake of the discussion. If you doubt it and need proof you can look it up yourself. As I said, it is a public document.

So you were spoon fed something on the internet and took it as fact. Listen, I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm asking for a definition. You said something was a matter of fact, I asked you to provide evidence. You're not willing. And you guys are the intellectual superiors.

duck:

If you scroll down on this thread you will see a copy of the termination clause from his original contract. The extension didn't change the language from the clause. In the clause there is a duty to mitigate section.

We can't demote Wilcox without violating his contract. The first provision of his contract specifies that he is hired to be Head Coach of Football.
