Toughest game of the year, #22 in Sagarin, on the road.

Louisville is good at running the ball and defending the run. Cal is nearly worst in the country at running the ball and defending the run.

A lot will ride on our freshman QB and our sub-par receiving corps. Harsin is going to need to get creative. I do like DeJesus on the jet sweep. The halfback pass. We cannot play vanilla even if going conservative and slowing it down is Wilcox's instinct against a better team.

On defense, Wilcox and his brain trust need to be able to stop the run and force Louisville to throw, hopefully resulting in some turnovers. Obviously we need Uluave to be healthy.

Most of us are not invested in another barely get that sixth win so we can go to a bowl game season. We're waiting for your savior to get around to doing the job he was hired for rather than the job he's been doing up to this point which is being a part-time fundraiser and a full-time Wilcox apologist.

Well said. Rivera needs to take the decisive action we've all been waiting for.

Cade is only 1/11 of the defense. Are we relying on his return to bring Cal a victory? It's beat Stanfurd and get to the Pop Tart Bowl. I'm going to stay with Southern Section CA high school football. Exciting, fun and kids are going to play for their team, their school and their families. Long Beach Wilson Bruins beat Poly for the first time in 34 years. League Champs and hungry to win.!
Bring back bottled beer and cigars at CMS. Should get us back in the Rose Bowl!

Well, as I've said repeatedly, I didn't think Rivera should be GM, don't think he was well suited for it, and even then I was still severely disappointed with the statements he has made so far as an apologist for Wilcox (and critic of his critics).

But, yes, the proof will be who we end up getting for next year. That is what matters.

Tomorrow night is going to be ugly if they just run the ball.

A blowout loss to Louisville prompting Rivera to fire Wilcox and take over as interim coach to beat Stanford and SMU, then hiring a great young offensive minded coach to coach the team in the Hawaii Bowl retaining Sagapolutele and then surrounding him with talent for next year, is my unrealistic fantasy.

Unrealistic because I don't think even a blowout loss would prompt Rivera to make a change. A loss to Louisville is expected. I never root against the Bears, but there is a danger an upset win, then with the Axe could revive the Wilcox supporters and Rivera's statements so far are not encouraging. Such is the ugly situation we find ourselves in year 9.

People have given up here.
Who expects to win the toughest game of the year away from home after the last two losses?

This is the same crowd that was crowing about how easy our schedule was and had even mentioned the C (Championship) word.

The expectations can soar too high, and sink too low.

I'm just about ready to turn in my Cal football fandom and just root for the local DIII team if RR doesn't can Wilsux and hire a competent coaching staff. At least the games are nearby and I can enjoy a Saturday afternoon cheering for student athletes who are playing for the love of the game and know they'll go on to become pros in something other than athletics.

I have been saying for three years our schedule this year is the easiest in our modern history and that it was a huge opportunity that we have squandered by retaining Wilcox. A mediocre Cal team could have easily won 10 last year and then came back even stronger and be 9-0 right now with this game having national significance. Even losing we could have finished 11-1 with a not-great team and that would have been transformational for our program even if we got killed in the ACC Championship Game.

We currently are ranked #81 in Sagarin, that is terrible, yet we have a winning record and can still end up in a bowl game. Just a huge waste of what was our best opportunity to turn around the program.

With a different coach who won 10 last year and was a good recruiter we would have much better players this year with an even easier schedule.

Aside from checking the score from time to time, plan on watching LSU vs. Alabama during that time slot. Navy vs. Notre Dame is also an intriguing one. Day starts off with BYU vs. Texas Tech, then Oregon vs. Iowa and Texas A&M vs. Missouri - plenty of competitive, quality football to choose from on Saturday!

Hard to get excited about talking about Cal this year. We play some awful football right now. There is some good play on the defensive side of the ball, but we don't have enough consistent good defensive play. Which is why we are a team that will go 6-6 or 5-7.

As crazy as y'all may think this sounds, we actually have a chance.

Of course, we have to get a lot of breaks and also execute at our peak as a team, but ....

"That's why they play the game."
