The people that kept receipts in this thread are the people that want Year 10 of Justin Wilcox. Real Cal fans enjoy the win but don't act like oh, Justin is amazing. In reality, you apologists will be the only ones in the stands next year watching Cal get their butt kicked by Clemson or UCLA

Year 2 of JKS with more talent around him and it might be Clemson and UCLA that get their butts kicked.

Nope we're not going to do this again. "One more year" "one more year". Maybe there will be dog fights but Wilcox never knows how to get over the hump as we've seen for 9 years. The apologists say that we will at LEAST play competitive games hahahaha

Wilcox needs to be fired. I hate how we won yesterday because we had a chance to leave him in kentucky runway

Toughest game of the year, #22 in Sagarin, on the road.

Louisville is good at running the ball and defending the run. Cal is nearly worst in the country at running the ball and defending the run.

A lot will ride on our freshman QB and our sub-par receiving corps. Harsin is going to need to get creative. I do like DeJesus on the jet sweep. The halfback pass. We cannot play vanilla even if going conservative and slowing it down is Wilcox's instinct against a better team.

On defense, Wilcox and his brain trust need to be able to stop the run and force Louisville to throw, hopefully resulting in some turnovers. Obviously we need Uluave to be healthy.

Well it was a helluva game. They are talking about it now. I gotta say I did not see it coming though.

Harsin opened up his bag ot tricks. JDJ was huge. JKS was terrific. Raphael played really hard and tough.

The defense was good. I was surprised that Louisville threw it as often as they did. They were running it well. They got the one TO and a few sacks late which had been missing.

The team responded really well. The locker room was very emotional.

It was great. I think my above synopsis for a Cal win was prescient.

Louisville's starting RB was out but his backup was getting 9.7 yards per carry. All they had to do was run it down our throat and it would have been game over. Instead they only gave him 14 carries because we lured them into a passing duel, the only way we were going to win. Harsin dialed up all the trick plays, even multiple DeJesus passes and on defense we got a pick.

Wilcox plays up to his competition and down to his competition. Most wins are a 50/50 coin flip, like this one was. Mark of a coach fighting to get to a .500 career record. A team that can beat Louisville in OT on the road should not have lost any of the 4 we lost, and should never get shut out by San Diego State.

We are not having a good season. To be good, you have to be consistently good and Wilcox has never done that in 9 years of trying. Instead we played the role of spoiler for a team that was having a good season. It was fun, but wouldn't it have been better if it were two 9-0 teams facing off last night? Louisville is not better than us. Virginia is not better. They just have better coaching and didn't run off all their skill players in the off season. We still beat them with our star freshman QB and his one target: our 5'5 smurf WR that no one wanted. Imagine if we had more WRs and had a running game? This schedule is our easiest since 1945. It was set up on a silver platter.

Aside from checking the score from time to time, plan on watching LSU vs. Alabama during that time slot. Navy vs. Notre Dame is also an intriguing one. Day starts off with BYU vs. Texas Tech, then Oregon vs. Iowa and Texas A&M vs. Missouri - plenty of competitive, quality football to choose from on Saturday!

Sounds reasonable.
However, what if we win?

If Cal wins, I guess I could completely overreact, change my tune on Wilcox and start a thread titled "Shame again on all you Wilcox haters!"

Well, that thread title already exists, so you can either go post on it now, or start a new one saying "I gave up on Cal and missed all the fun in Louisville last night".

Ha! No, not touching that thread you started - still ridiculous.

Wow, did not see that win coming! Huge and incredibly enjoyable! I can enjoy the win, appreciate that the Bears are bowl eligible, and possibly, just possibly, be on the verge of achieve a winning conference record or at least .500 for the first time in nine years all while understanding Wilcox is not a great coach, Cal's athletic department is terrible, and regardless of what happens the rest of the way, Wilcox will not be fired anytime soon (or at least until the buyout is much, much less). Hell, beat Stanford and coupled with this win, he might even get extended! LOL!

All of these threads have far more vehement anti-Wilcox people inventing imaginary pro-Wilcox posters than actual pro-Wilcox people. Just because something makes you very mad doesn't mean it's everywhere. There are like 5 people on this board who think he's great.

Now, we have to hope for at least 1 more win so that JW gets a real offer from another, higher rated school. That would take the decision-making brunt off of everyone. RR wouldn't extend and bump him, would he? Nah. Not happ'nin. Like that dream contract fallin' from the sky.

What a glorious read this thread has been on the day after. So much hubris on this thread that you'd think certain people have either a crystal ball or think they're smarter than everyone else.

No one who has posted will recognize that the other side has legit points, because we are just a microcosm of society at large. The internet is the problem. It is far too easy to shoot off posts from a "pee stained sofa". How I miss the days when you had to actually stand behind your own words. Like put your actual body behind the lips as they form the words that pass through the air and land on another who might have played right tackle in college. The internet makes everyone feel like a right tackle in life.

I burst out laughing when you referenced the piss stained sofa.

In honor of your post, I'll refrain from ripping the person who introduced that insult.

Other schools don't get as excited by 7-5 seasons as Cal does.

Hey, after 9 years getting to 3-3 in conference and probably finishing 4-4 with the easiest conference schedule we have had since WW2 is more than enough for them and is the reason Wilcox got a six year extension after going 5-7 and we got left behind with our administration considering moving to the Mountain West or shutting down the program.

The ACC was a lifeline. Our initial two easy schedules were an opportunity, but we had to make use of our opportunities, not go 2-6 in cobference our first year and then with an even easier schedule act like 4-4 makes Wilcox a good coach.

I would be more than happy to stand in front of any of you lame Wilcox apologists, tell you right to your face that Wilcox stinks as a coach, and see what your boomer "right tackle in my own mind" selves are going to do about it.

The reason some of us have to root for Cal to lose these games is because our fanbase is full of so many stupids that they think one lucky win against a middling ranked opponent changes things. We're looking at nine years of failure while you think one game means something.

For the first time ever, I'm hoping Cal loses Big Game because of the outsized importance that the losers in our fanbase have always placed on it. It's gonna take a 6-6 record to get some of you to wake up to reality that we need a new coach.

I think there's a Reddit thread asking Am I The Ass Hole?
You might go find yourself there because:
1) some of us have merely been posting about cheering for the Bears, celebrating and enjoying the win.

2) why the boomer generation war? I'm not a boomer but I'm so f'ing sick of young people disrespecting old people. As if that generation is to blame for all your life shortcomings.

3) you want Cal to lose to Stanford?
You SUCK as a fan. And yes I'll say that to your face, too.

I'm many many years on record for saying I learned to love Cal when we lost regularly.
For me, walking up the hill past frat parties is all I need.
But you, carry on with your sadness.

You call yourself a Cal fan but want to see Cal lose to Stanfurd "because of the outsized importance" that some fans place on a Big Game win.

I am sad that you feel that way. I can understand that some one can feel so hurt by the thing you love that you want everyone to feel that same way about the thing you love (or maybe used to love)

But I cannot join in the hope that ALL Cal fans suffer in the pain of a Big Game loss in order to allow you to feel just a little better.

I have been following Cal football since 1959 (as a High School Freshman) when I came to Cal FB games to watch my older brother who was in the Cal Band.
My family is a Cal Family (1 brother, 2 sisters, 1 sister in law , my wife and 3 kids all attended Cal). For us a fun Saturday in the Fall is one where Cal wins its game and Stanfurd loses its game A PERFECT Saturday is one where Cal Wins the Big Game.

Despite our love for Cal football. We are not idiots. We discuss honestly the strengths and weaknesses of the Cal football coaches, players and administrators.
But regardless of the weaknesses of Cal's coaches, players and administrators, I am a loyal season ticket holder and will watch the games on TV if I can't attend in person.
I will gladly join the chorus calling for the termination of any particular coach who cannot cut it. But I will ALWAYS ALWAYS root for Cal to win. (AS I did Even in the days when Tom Holmoe was the coach.)

I am hoping (not expecting) that Wilcox runs the table and wins the Big Game and the SMU game and the Bowl game that follows. If that means that Wilcox gets to the magic number of 9 wins this season and is NOT fired at the end of the season. I will be happy that Cal has 9 wins, no matter what happens to Wicox. This is because I am MORE of a Cal fan than I am a Wilcox hater.
