What a glorious read this thread has been on the day after. So much hubris on this thread that you'd think certain people have either a crystal ball or think they're smarter than everyone else.
No one who has posted will recognize that the other side has legit points, because we are just a microcosm of society at large. The internet is the problem. It is far too easy to shoot off posts from a "pee stained sofa". How I miss the days when you had to actually stand behind your own words. Like put your actual body behind the lips as they form the words that pass through the air and land on another who might have played right tackle in college. The internet makes everyone feel like a right tackle in life.
I would be more than happy to stand in front of any of you lame Wilcox apologists, tell you right to your face that Wilcox stinks as a coach, and see what your boomer "right tackle in my own mind" selves are going to do about it.
The reason some of us have to root for Cal to lose these games is because our fanbase is full of so many stupids that they think one lucky win against a middling ranked opponent changes things. We're looking at nine years of failure while you think one game means something.
For the first time ever, I'm hoping Cal loses Big Game because of the outsized importance that the losers in our fanbase have always placed on it. It's gonna take a 6-6 record to get some of you to wake up to reality that we need a new coach.
You call yourself a Cal fan but want to see Cal lose to Stanfurd "because of the outsized importance" that some fans place on a Big Game win.
I am sad that you feel that way. I can understand that some one can feel so hurt by the thing you love that you want everyone to feel that same way about the thing you love (or maybe used to love)
But I cannot join in the hope that ALL Cal fans suffer in the pain of a Big Game loss in order to allow you to feel just a little better.
I have been following Cal football since 1959 (as a High School Freshman) when I came to Cal FB games to watch my older brother who was in the Cal Band.
My family is a Cal Family (1 brother, 2 sisters, 1 sister in law , my wife and 3 kids all attended Cal). For us a fun Saturday in the Fall is one where Cal wins its game and Stanfurd loses its game A PERFECT Saturday is one where Cal Wins the Big Game.
Despite our love for Cal football. We are not idiots. We discuss honestly the strengths and weaknesses of the Cal football coaches, players and administrators.
But regardless of the weaknesses of Cal's coaches, players and administrators, I am a loyal season ticket holder and will watch the games on TV if I can't attend in person.
I will gladly join the chorus calling for the termination of any particular coach who cannot cut it. But I will ALWAYS ALWAYS root for Cal to win. (AS I did Even in the days when Tom Holmoe was the coach.)
I am hoping (not expecting) that Wilcox runs the table and wins the Big Game and the SMU game and the Bowl game that follows. If that means that Wilcox gets to the magic number of 9 wins this season and is NOT fired at the end of the season. I will be happy that Cal has 9 wins, no matter what happens to Wicox. This is because I am MORE of a Cal fan than I am a Wilcox hater.
