I went to the SMU game last year and didn't think twice when Fernando didn't play "because of the flu." Knowing what we now know, is it a good sign that JKS is playing? I hope so…

Good reminder of Mendoza

One day, Mendoza is also going to come back as a coach.

He seems more like a future businessman or politician, especially if he makes bank in the NFL.

Honestly, leave Mendoza alone. He made the right decision for himself and now it looks like he is going to win the Heisman, be a top NFL draft pick and still says good things about his time at Cal. Many players leave in this day and age,for greener pastures, more NIL money, because they want to be closer to home, a myrad of reasons. Get off the BS, wish the kid well and be happy for him. He would not have receieved the same exposure if he kept playing for us and now he has a chance to make Lotto money for him and his family. Which of you, would not make the same choice, if given it!

I'm hearing Chase Garbers is 24-36 months away from passing Larry Ellison as the most impactful NIL titan in college sports: https://t.co/I3L6U2ycI9

I still think all of his actions are consistent with being for his boys.
He was close with his team mates. Closer with them than the coaching staff.
Chandler Rodgers was recruited and given the impression that he was going to be the starter for his senior year. I'm sure it wasn't flat out promised, but that doesn't mean the impression wasn't given.
He came in and promptly lost the battle to Mendoza. We were bowl eligible, a win wasn't going to significantly change the prospects of what bowl we went to, and our last game was in Texas, Rodgers home town. If Mendoza wanted Rodgers to get a chance to play one last game and the coaches weren't giving it I could 100% see an "illness" forming.
I could also see him being under the impression that coaches had lied to Rodgers about his chances of being a starter and being worried they were doing the same with JKS. That could easily lead to a call to JKS to let him know the coaches may be misleading him.
Lastly, once all of this came to light three things happened:
1) Another new offensive coordinator, again.
2) He started getting thrown under the bus and shade from the coaching staff/fans.
3) His mother's health and need to travel to two different schools was an issue that needed to be addressed.
With that in mind he figured he should go to the same school as his brother. Looking at the coaching staffs and talking about the quality of coaching received with his brother, it became a no brainer for him to join his brother rather than having his brother join him in Berkeley with a coaching staff he could no longer trust.
Is that what happened? I don't know. But it is consistent with the actions taken and the character we believed Mendoza to have. At the very least I'd love to hear his side of the story.

No, that's not what happened. That's just a ton of new speculation concocted in an attempt to justify his actions. Transferring was the right decision. Calling in sick right before the SMU game was not. Calling JKS was not.
