Stupid question. Why is JKS in Hawaii? Has Fall Semester ended? All classes are virtual now?
Honestly, with NIL and the transfer portal, do these kids even bother with classes anymore? The system has basically killed the concept of "student athlete".
Well reportedly Mendoza got his Haas business degree in only 2.5 years, all while playing football, traveling, staying up late studying the playbook, waking up at 5:00 AM to get in extra throwing practice and staying after practice for extra reps….
Kind of makes a mockery of a Cal degree.
I think it's just a different academic world. When I went to Cal, the front row (unless the prof objected) was mostly cassette recorders. My understanding is that now many lectures are streamed and remote sections are available. If Mendoza is disciplined (I'm betting that he is), he has used summers and "downtime" during travel to his advantage. Also, we don't know if he carried in AP Credits.
Summer classes
Also,
a lot of kids come in now with significant AP credit. The average football and basketball players may not have too much, but a guy like Mendoza who was headed to (?) Yale probably had at least 1/2 year's worth, maybe closer to a full year.
It's a different story from when I was at Cal and we had to pay $212.50 per quarter for three quarters a year. Back then, it was quite common to spend an extra quarter or two (or three) to get through undergrad. Friend of mine graduated in 3 years + a summer, but that was the
rare exception. A lot more common now. Plus, there's significant grade inflation. You don't have to worry about being at the top the class to get an "A".
