The Bears continued to add transfer portal commitments at a fast pace, adding productive NAU safety Michael Hurst Jr this weekend.
The 6-0/185 safety started 10 games at NAU after transferring from Portland State, tying for a team-high with 65 tackles along with 6.5 TFL, 1 pass breakup, a fumble recovery and 1 QB hurry. At Portland State from 2022-24, Hurst appeared in 23 games with 99 tackles. He competed in two games as a true freshman in 2022 and redshirted.
As a 3 star prep at Servite High School in Anaheim, Hurst lettered in football four times, basketball twice and track twice, helping lead Servite to a 10-3 record and the CIF Southern Section Championship game as a senior, adding 51 tackles, one tackle for loss and an interception.
Hurst joins fellow safety commit Kingston Lopa (Oregon), offensive tackles Jimothy Lewis, Jacob Arop (South Dakota) and Mykeal Rabess (FIU), running backs Adam Mohammed (UW), Carter Vargas (UC Davis) and Ashton Emory, receivers Chase Hendricks (Ohio) and Ian Strong (Rutgers), tight end Dorian Thomas, edge Solomon Williams, DL Justin Beadles (Louisville) and Ashun Shepphard (Miss St).
