Pat Brown after he left office donated money for a chair at Cal. Don't know details, like which department.

If some of you guys don't get what an absolutely huge deal it is to have the governor of the state wearing a Cal jacket in a video where Cal is discussed as the flagship university of the state then there is no hope for you. You don't think UCLA has some feelings about this?
This, of course, following immediately on the heels of inserting $5.6 million into the state budget specifically for lighting in Memorial Stadium so we can host concerts to better fund our football program.
Newsom has done more for Cal football in the last six months than the prior dozen governors combined. I don't care if he's a purple people eater, I'm acknowledging the win.

Oh, and by the way, this is all100% happening because of Tosh, his relationships and his networking. None of this would've happened under the prior regime. He lobbied for the lighting funding personally to the governor. Ditto this video. Hell, he probably sewed up that jacket. The man is working it.

It is absolutely fantastic that these things are happening and getting done.
That being said....being the head coach of a football team is a huge time sink and responsibility in and of itself. Should we be concerned that upgrading lights in the stadium, organizing PR meetings with the governor, and potentially sewing a Cal jacket has to be done by the head coach?
Should we at least be making a list of all the "extras" that Tosh is doing and look at how we can farm out some of these responsibilities going forward? If these types of actions are necessary for success I'm not sure its reasonable to expect our next head coaches to share the drive that Tosh has....at least not without burning out.
Also as a slight aside...why aren't those jackets available at the student store?

Not that anyone probably cares but I should qualify my "oh god" post. It certainly reflects my feelings about Gavin. Not warranted on this board. Sorry. It also reflects my old fashioned views of a football coach. Nose to rhe grindstone, all football, all the time. Rebuilding efforts don't allow for time to wine taste and gladhanding road trips. Probably wrong in this day and age. Whatever. I certainly still have extremely high hopes for Cal and Tosh. If anything, this thread certainly helps me to understand why Tosh is able to recruit... everywhere he goes. He's a non stop, dynamic personality who's not afraid to hit the road and speak with people about a university he loves.
Go Tosh. Go Bears.

The head coach has always had a certain amount of fundraising duties and rallying the alumni and community/PR, and those activities have become even more crucial in the NIL era. Tosh is excellent at this.
If Tosh and his staff can handle the Xs and Os at least at an average or above average level, the program with be successful. If they turn out to be pretty good at it, we will have early JT-level success, because all the rest is very well covered.

What are the most memorable California governor-UC Berkeley moments?
--Gav has had to be involved in Cal because of all the housing stuff.
--I think Arnold who filmed his 1994 movie Junior on campus visited a few times, but I think he spent his time at the lab.
--I saw Gray Davis at Zellerbach Hall. He got a UC Berkeley-style welcome.
--Jerry Brown would speak on Sproul Plaza in the late 90s, before he became Oakland mayor. And students would just ignore him.
--I don't recall Jerry Brown 2.0 being on campus as governor (but I could be wrong). He did participate in the Bancroft Library oral history project.
And of course, there's this:
