So Alabama's defense was due to Nick Saban and not Tosh? Oregon's defense was due to Lanning, not Tosh? But, but, I was repeatedly informed that Tosh was the common denominator and he was the responsible for those defenses!

A GAZZILLION DOLLARS INVESTED IN THEIR PROGRAMS is the key ingredient. Cal no longer has to be poor but we are never going to be resourced at the upper 25% level.

It wasn't Cal's resources that got exposed on the field today. It was the coaching, or lack thereof. Cal got outcoached at all levels today.

Tosh was supposed to be this super recruiter whose Jacks and Joes would prove superior to other coaches' Xs and Os. Then we were told that Tosh was responsible for Saban's and Lanning's defenses. The product on the field today proved all that was just a bunch of hogwash.

We both had good Portal classes, but Chesney's heavily relied on players he had on his JMU squad that he coached made the CFP last year, including the second team All American RB that we had so much trouble bringing down tonight.

We appeared to make good halftime adjustments or at least came out motivated and tied it up then had the ball back with momentum when the botched (early) snap on 4th down happened. I'm not sure why there was so much crowd noise. Still, the defense held and got us the ball back. We did not play well, but it didn't seem we "gave up" until the end, when the game got out of reach at the end of the 4th quarter we gave up two very easy scores.

I was also wondering why there was so much crowd noise on the botched 4th down when watching the game on TV. I texted my friend at the game and apparently they had "Get Loud" on the screens during that play...

The biggest problem I see is how badly they completely folded and how quickly they packed it in. Inspiring young men was supposed to be the strength of this staff. I could almost forgive the lousy play calling and call it growing pains.

We played a team that won 3 last year. There seems to be general agreement that we were outcoached, out talented, and outworked. Outcoached wasn't totally unexpected. But when you hire a guy for his recruiting and who is supposedly supposed to be able to light a fire under young guys, and you give him more resources than any Cal coach has gotten, you don't expect to be totally out talented and you certainly don't expect the team to pack it in before triple zeroes.
