After a pretty good first half (with the exception of more exasperating penalties) we got pantsed. I'd love to hear someone ask Tosh what changed in the second half. Did we just get outcoached?

One team made half time adjustments, the other did not.

The team's playing up to their HC's standards. The HC's the guy who recruited against Cal while on Cal's dime and recruiting trip. He's the same guy who agreed to take a contract with his alma mater, only to back out and go for boat money. He's also the one who had Cal players fake injury.
In short, the standards set by the Cal HC aren't high. It's no wonder his players also fail to meet high standards.

As long as I live, I will not understand why Tosh's past did not disqualify him from being a candidate for Cal's head coaching position. In my 50 years as a devoted Cal fan, I've seen only a handful of true villains. These include Matt Barnes, who knocked Shantay Legans unconscious with a vicious forearm; Terri McKeever, who abused her swimmers; Jim Knowlton, who did not act quickly enough on the allegations against McKeever; and Tosh Lupoi, who sabotaged our 2012 football recruiting class. How on earth did Tosh Lupoi end up as our head football coach?

I can't say if it's true, but I can tell you the narrative:
made a bad decision at a fairly young age when he thought he was being screwed... later had regrets... still loved Cal and very much wanted the chance to redeem himself
There are some pretty wise people who believe this, so I'm tempted to take their word for it.
I can't believe we're still litigating this.

Tosh was 30 years old when he acted the way he did back in 2011. If you are not behaving maturely by age 30, you have definite problems.

To you and the two posters above you, I don't know what to say except for I don't know the full story and I respect your opinion. Just trying to explain how the other side was feeling with regards to bringing him back.
Also important to differentiate between how Tosh left (not good) and how the Bears are doing thus fall under his leadership (also not good).

I'm fairly certain Tedford and Pendergast (DC) were involved or at the very least were informed about this tactic. When the NCAA came calling, Tosh was the expendable fall guy. Since Tosh appeared to have some resentment, it seems Tedford did a bad job of asking Tosh to take one for the team.
By the way, that 2010 defensive performance was outstanding. The high-scoring Duck offense had a season low 15 points.

Don't be silly. This is like me asking you to cite your sources that Tosh was the sole person responsible for faking the injuries. I'm just stating my opinion just like you. In reality, neither of us knows what exactly transpired in 2010. However, if you are privy to some inside information, I would definitely like to know.

Tosh was the one who was penalized by the NCAA after their investigation. As such, Tosh is the one who is responsible for the fake injuries. If you want to claim otherwise, it's on you to cite your sources.

No one is saying that Tosh did not get penalized. You are debating points nobody is saying otherwise. Do you really think Tedford would have admitted to the NCAA that he or Pendergast was the culprit? Tosh was the expendable fall guy. His suspension was less disruptive than if the penalty fell on Tedford or Pendergast. Tosh might've been the author of the idea, but he must have ran it by Tedford/Pendergast, or else such insubordination might had led to his termination.

I think it more likely that he was punished for doing a poor job in coaching his players to fake injuries. Players glancing to the sidelines where a coach is motioning, "lie down", is just a bad look.

The whole point of faking injuries was to slow down the Oregon offense and allow for substitutions, mostly LBs and DBs, not DLs so much and certainly not exclusively. Moreover, as you said, it was done so poorly and obviously that Pendergast and Tedford had to know what was happening and if they had an issue with it could have stopped it.
I'm not a Tosh guy by any means, I would not have hired him, I dont excuse him for blowing up our recruiting class as a Cal employee, but I highly doubt he did injurygate by himself. I am also rooting for him to succeed beginning with a win this weekend.

I was at that game and it was humiliating to watch the ridiculous fake "injuries" and "cramps" so poorly orchestrated and in my mind performed in bad faith. I have no idea who conceived it or orchestrated it, but it infuriated me to watch. Not that long after, the Bears were the team with the Jarod Goff-led hurry up read/option offense, and Dykes was complaining about defenses intentionally slowing down the game.
And i don't care a bit if Tosh feels he was scapegoated for the slow down against Oregon. When he blew up our recruiting while apparently still on our payroll, well **** him. Only a simp would hire him back, and here we are.
