I was in the Phoenix airport one night when the 76's came through. Friends and I were stupidly star struck and approached several of them. Charles Barkely and Hersey Hawkins were really good guys. Manute Bol was a total duechebag.
do you mean that Manute just wasn't friendly? I have trouble seeing him as a douchebag. Maybe it was a language barrier, or he was distracted worrying about his family in Sudan?

I had dinner with Ted Williams once in the late 80s. He was super nice, and a very sharp and interesting guy. I could also see how he could get a rep as a jerk; pretty matter-of-fact and not afraid to be confrontational. I liked him though.

Back in the 1970's I worked for OSI in Palo Alto. One of our clients was the Dallas Cowboys. I made several business trips to Dallas. I didn't find any A-holes among the cowboys. The Cowboy staff treated me as if I was one of them. Charlie Waters was especially nice. When I visited there training center, Charlie showed me how to use the exercise equipment. I'm not saying I duplicated what he did, but rather he showed me how it worked while he used it, then he toke off several weights for me to use. Nobody asked him to do it, he did he because he was an especially nice person.
The attached photo shows me (behind Red Hickey) with the Cowboy staff.

Some people are going to find this hard to believe.....

Milton Bradley - very friendly and articulate guy. I've met him twice (once when he was with the Dodgers and then when he was with the A's). He's kind of quiet, but seemed very genuine.

Cliff Floyd - great guy, loves to talk. One of the nicest athletes out there.

Randy Wolf is a cool guy. Loves to interact with fans.

Pat Burrell was a major d-bag when he was with the Phillies.

I can attest to the fact that Eddie Murray is a major a-hole. Wouldn't even give little kids autographs when he was the Dodgers hitting coach.
