No.

I'll admit my last experience with them was the visit to Frestucky and encountering the most vile group of people I've ever met at a sporting event, and that includes Raiders games in LA and Oaktown. So my expectations are for more of the same loser behavior. If they surprise everyone and show even USC-level class, I'll be flat-out shocked. So the bar for "exceeding expectations" couldn't be lower.
We'll see if they can do it, I'm not holding my breath. From what I saw in Fresneck you'd need 50,000 labotomies to get that group of fans up to the level of only being "annoying." I know it's been a long time, but I'm still upset we're scheduling them and I hope we give them a serious beat-down.

If you were there in Fresno the last time these teams played, you'd realize how much restraint I'm showing in my posts about FSU fans. Hey, I hope they prove me wrong, for the sake of the Cal fans in attendance.
But in the event nothing has changed, I hope JT has his players prepared for the barrage of batteries.

After last season, Cal has something to prove....and that begins with pounding Fresno into submission....if Fresno wins it won't be because we have no heart, it will be because we have no talent or are outcoached.... the fear of getting beat by the Bulldogs should propel us to clown stomp them....

if our talent is only on par with fresno we are going 2-10 this year.

i always worry about a coaching letdown, but not in the opening game coming off a 5-7 season. as long as JT doesn't go too gimmicky on the offense we win easily.

I was there in Fresno when we last played them. I actually sat near on the Southeast end of the field for the 1st half because that was the only ticket me and my buddy could get. I had blue and gold on - nothing happened.
The only thing you're really doing is perpetuating a stereotype - much the same way the whole nation regards Berkeley. And it is quite true what another poster has written that comments like yours are akin to something a Stanford or USC fan would say. It smacks of elitism.

And I'm quite sure that the Fresno Forum (wherever that is) has more than their share of "Kal" insults and Berkeley stereotypes. Go and post your admonitions of their behavior so we can see it.
You hanging out here playing Mother Teresa correcting us of all our Sins does no good except to feed your own warped sense of self-righteousness.
This is NOT a Fresno Board. It's a Cal one so expect posts that are pro-Cal and anti-opponent in sentiment.
Your motivation is extremely flawed by the fact that this is a Cal Forum. Unless you also do your tedious "PC policing" and "Miss Manners" stuff at the local major Fresno Forum on the Internet, I suggest you give up here already.

are you counting fres as one of those 2 wins? I think every pac-12 team we play has more talent than fresno, including WSU and CU. That leaves presby as the only team we play with less talent than fresno.
Recruiting statistics aren't everything, but they are evidence of something.
according to rivals ...
2007 - Fresno St. had 26 recruits, 7 3-stars, the rest unrated.
2008 - 23 recruits, 10 3-stars, the rest unrated.
2009 - 17 recruits, 1 4-star, 3 3-stars, rest unrated.
2010 - 21 recruits, 1 4-star (Dunn?), 15 3-stars, the rest unrated.
2011 - 17 recruits, 4 3-stars, the rest unrated.
By my count (excluding transfers in or out) - they have 2 4-stars, 39 3-stars and 63 unrated players.
In the last 5 recruiting classes (again, excluding transfers), we have 2 5-stars, 38 four-stars, and 60 3-stars. So basically our team looks just like their team except for every unrated player they have, we have a 3-star, for every 3-star they have, we have a 4-star and for every 4-star they have, we have a 5-star.
It's self-evident that we have more talent than fresno, the only question is whether a coaching letdown fails to get production from that talent.

Now if there is one thing that I am not - its self-righteous. But I digress. And I have no motivation at all with the exception of calling people out on their BS and their stereotypes.

Calling people out on their BS and stereotyping? What BS are you referring to exactly? Are you saying people are just plain out lying or exaggerating about how they were treated in Fresno the last time around? I appreciate the fact that you were at that game as well, but did you ever think that maybe your experience was the exception and not the rule.
I've been to away games at numerous venues, including most Pac-10 schools, Tennessee, Maryland, and Michigan St. I have had no problems whatsoever with these venues or their fans. However, I had racial slurs yelled at me while in Fresno, beer bottles thrown in my direction, stalking as I was walking back to my car and numerous other horrible things. If you think that's ok behavior, then I guess that's your opinion. I guess you could also say that my experience was the exception and not the rule. Yeah, but then there are those hundreds of other Cal fans who have said that they experienced the exact same thing. Its also a fact (and you can talk to Sandy herself about this if you want) that hundreds of fans/alumni/donors specifically talked to Sandy about their experience(s) at the Fresno game and told her that under no circumstances should she be scheduling them again. I also know one extremely high end donor (high-end enough that something is probably named after him on campus) who actually pulled their donation amount significantly this year because the Fresno game was scheduled, he was that pissed.
So yeah, you can whine about Cal fans stereotyping or what not, but you probably didn't have crap thrown at you and have to hear a horde of people calling you a chink on the way back to your car. Did you? Are you really trying to say that you can be treated like that at an away game and have no right to express your anger about it? Is that really what you are saying? Should we as cal fans just take that sort of abuse, and not complain and hope that the situation is improved magically? should we shut our mouthes just because we don't want to seem like a bunch of stanfurd crybabies? really? is that really your argument?
So you wanna call people out on BS? fine. then prove to me that none of this stuff happened to Cal fans while at the Fresno game. And also attempt to justify the Fresno st fans' actions.
and yeah, you can probably say it was just a few bad apples. and that we shouldn't be stereotyping everyone cause of a few people. and you'd be wrong again. I've seen a few bad apples at away games, that's part of the whole gameday experience. I expect some good natured taunting from SC fans and expect it to even get somewhat feisty. But this was not just a few bad apples. it was like 10% of the crowd. And that's a large amount. plus, even those fresno st. fans not involved are really still to blame. because they absolutely saw how cal fans were being treated, and if they cared about the reputation of their school at all, they would go to the AD or the President of the University and demand better security measures or even (god forbid) that they stop selling alcohol at games. I mean, can you really tell me that such things could ever happen at Cal. Do you think Cal grads would put up with that sort of crap?
philly1121;555789 said:
Firstly, I was not commenting about you, I was commenting about beachybear and his rant. To go a little out of order on your post with regard to whether such things could happen at Cal - yes, I absolutely believe it - because I've seen it. I've seen opposing fans walking back on Piedmont Avenue getting teased and yelled at relentlessly by fraternity members and other Cal fans. To your last question - certainly they must put up with that crap since I've seen it on subsequent trips to Cal - my last one being for the Big Game in 2008.
As far as your game day experience at Bulldog Stadium - that sounds regretful and certainly is uncalled for. I make no excuses for that kind of behavior. Additionally, I think back then the visiting team was on the side of the student section which made things terrible for the visitors (ask Oregon State when they came). That's been changed as have alcohol sales been banned. So I take your word for it that you're telling the truth. No question.
But you're talking like this kind of behavior happens in a vacuum. That it doesn't happen at Cal. That we are somehow the epitome of 1920 Notre Dame football fans? And are you serious when you say that Fresno State fans had a duty, a duty, to chastise their own fans for giving you or other Cal fans a bad time? Should I have stopped students from slingshotting oranges into the Stanford student section back at the 1990 Big Game at Memorial? I was laughing my a** off when we were doing that! I mean, where does it end?
Your experience sounded horrible and the racial slurs are the lowest form of conduct, but please quit the holier than thou attitude that we are at the height of the sportsmanship and gentleman's scale when it comes to fan behavior. No fan base is free from sin.

sigh. did you just compare what happens on frat row at berkeley to what happened at fresno st? let me be as clear as I can be here. I've had some pretty feisty tussles with Sc fans at the coliseum, was taunted pretty good by maryland fans, was called some pretty funny names by tennessee students, etc. whatever. that's part of college football and part of the fun. but at Fresno, I literally thought i was going to be lynched. at that point, it gets kinda different, you know?
and why do you think that cal fans have been talking about their experiences at the fresno game since it happened. it comes up every year. cal fans never talk about other away game experiences. and how come high end donors only complain to sandy about the fresno game, and tell her that the only team that she should not schedule is Fresno st. are you starting to get it? cal fans aren't being soft. what happened at fresno was beyond normal. so yeah, for the most part all college fans are the same, we all have our bad apples. but you don't see Cal fans b!tching and whining about every team's fan base. cal fans only complain about their fresno st. experience.
