I'm not sure insulting the fans will motivate the team. I mean if you say something about the team members, they might take it personally, but insulting the fans is at least one degree of separation.

But in the event nothing has changed, I hope JT has his players prepared for the barrage of batteries.

Some of the comments from the Cal fans on this thread (and forum) are making us look like snobby Stanfurd/USC fans... it's one thing to bash on specific opponents fans, but another to diss ALL of them. I know some FSU fans and they're class acts.

With that said, GO BEARS and roll on the bulldogs! Bears > Bulldogs =)

I say Cal's "swagger" should overcome Fresno's "heart" any day of the week.

We just gotta represent "Cali" and show them who they're messin' with....

I was there in Fresno when we last played them. I actually sat near on the Southeast end of the field for the 1st half because that was the only ticket me and my buddy could get. I had blue and gold on - nothing happened.

The only thing you're really doing is perpetuating a stereotype - much the same way the whole nation regards Berkeley. And it is quite true what another poster has written that comments like yours are akin to something a Stanford or USC fan would say. It smacks of elitism.

Well, we know our talent level is AT LEAST on par with Fresno St. I don't know what they have this year, but they were arguably better than we were last year. We should be more physical and have more team speed, but these non BCS conference teams all get sky high to play teams from the BCS conferences (advantage FSU). This will likely be a very tough game. I'll be happy with a win.

2008 - 23 recruits, 10 3-stars, the rest unrated.
2009 - 17 recruits, 1 4-star, 3 3-stars, rest unrated.
2010 - 21 recruits, 1 4-star (Dunn?), 15 3-stars, the rest unrated.
2011 - 17 recruits, 4 3-stars, the rest unrated.
By my count (excluding transfers in or out) - they have 2 4-stars, 39 3-stars and 63 unrated players.

In the last 5 recruiting classes (again, excluding transfers), we have 2 5-stars, 38 four-stars, and 60 3-stars. So basically our team looks just like their team except for every unrated player they have, we have a 3-star, for every 3-star they have, we have a 4-star and for every 4-star they have, we have a 5-star.

It's self-evident that we have more talent than fresno, the only question is whether a coaching letdown fails to get production from that talent.

I appreciate the fact that you were at that game as well, but did you ever think that maybe your experience was the exception and not the rule.

I've been to away games at numerous venues, including most Pac-10 schools, Tennessee, Maryland, and Michigan St. I have had no problems whatsoever with these venues or their fans. However, I had racial slurs yelled at me while in Fresno, beer bottles thrown in my direction, stalking as I was walking back to my car and numerous other horrible things. If you think that's ok behavior, then I guess that's your opinion. I guess you could also say that my experience was the exception and not the rule. Yeah, but then there are those hundreds of other Cal fans who have said that they experienced the exact same thing. Its also a fact (and you can talk to Sandy herself about this if you want) that hundreds of fans/alumni/donors specifically talked to Sandy about their experience(s) at the Fresno game and told her that under no circumstances should she be scheduling them again. I also know one extremely high end donor (high-end enough that something is probably named after him on campus) who actually pulled their donation amount significantly this year because the Fresno game was scheduled, he was that pissed.

So yeah, you can whine about Cal fans stereotyping or what not, but you probably didn't have crap thrown at you and have to hear a horde of people calling you a chink on the way back to your car. Did you? Are you really trying to say that you can be treated like that at an away game and have no right to express your anger about it? Is that really what you are saying? To go a little out of order on your post with regard to whether such things could happen at Cal - yes, I absolutely believe it - because I've seen it. I've seen opposing fans walking back on Piedmont Avenue getting teased and yelled at relentlessly by fraternity members and other Cal fans. To your last question - certainly they must put up with that crap since I've seen it on subsequent trips to Cal - my last one being for the Big Game in 2008.

As far as your game day experience at Bulldog Stadium - that sounds regretful and certainly is uncalled for. I make no excuses for that kind of behavior. Additionally, I think back then the visiting team was on the side of the student section which made things terrible for the visitors (ask Oregon State when they came). But you're talking like this kind of behavior happens in a vacuum. That it doesn't happen at Cal. That we are somehow the epitome of 1920 Notre Dame football fans? sigh. did you just compare what happens on frat row at berkeley to what happened at fresno st? let me be as clear as I can be here. I've had some pretty feisty tussles with Sc fans at the coliseum, was taunted pretty good by maryland fans, was called some pretty funny names by tennessee students, etc. whatever. that's part of college football and part of the fun. but at Fresno, I literally thought i was going to be lynched. at that point, it gets kinda different, you know?

I don't know why Philly continues to not accept this fact....not sure if there is an agenda but like ducky said, every fan base talks smack about other fan bases, some worse then others....but the Fresno St. away game was NOT just another taunting stuff that goes on at other stadiums....it was mass hysteria and violent taunting tand behavior that went so far that I've not seen the likes of it except for the hooligans and attacks at soccer matches.. Philly, you are right that not ALL fans are like this....but my God, players and Cal fans were literally fearful of being attacked and maimed....this is NOT an exaggeration....it was not just drunk frat boys razing you...it was deliberate abuse bordering on assault and battery.....
