It was an excellent day. We rode the ferry in and had a picnis lunch on the back deck. It was sunny and warm. The facilities at AT&T are first class. The seats are wide, lot sof leg room. Good food and nice to enjoy a beer (or two) during the game.

Downsides. It did not really have the college-Saturday feel. Small quiet crowd. Card stunds were hard to see.

It will be fun for this season. Really look forward to returning to Memorial.

Since the Bears are in the hunt for a bowl game, we should see a decent crowd for $C, Utah, etc.

You may see a decent crowd if Cal beats UDub in Seattle.......in not and Cal gets murdered in Eugene, then you may see a decent crowd for u$c, utah.....which are tough teams that could beat Cal, and if they do....ugh....that would be 3 losses in a row...then attendance at ATT would be very questionable....what will be interesting to me will be how Cal fans respond to Thursday night games in the City.....

We have friends coming from out of town for the $C game. We plan a late lunch and then heading over to AT&T. The wife and i are getting a hotel in the city and taking Friday as a vacation day.

Well KevBear, think we are just going to have to tough it out this year. Dirt on the field, alas, this is still Giants baseball season? Removing games from Berkeley--like there is a choice?

Seems most fans we talked to got into the fun we are going to have this season at AT&T. And it doesn't hurt that I can have an effete cup of Dreyers Rockie Road at my seat!

I have some reservations about AT/T just like Kev, but obviously have to live with them. What bugs me is I heard so much hoopla the last year from the AT/T supporters for Cal's temp home, and then they don't bother to show up. I don't care who the opponent is if this is such as great venue to watch a game. Frankly, as far as football goes, AT/T's field is the worst of the 3 options and about 30% of the seating is view-challenged to say the least. I specifically purchased View level seats because of the horrible lower level "premium" seats we were allocated for the nut bowl. Aside from a longer trip into a fun city and having a few more severely over-priced amenities to choose from, I don't see AT/T as a good venue for football. But, whatever at this point. At least there are only 5 "home" game this year.

BTW, how much did that Rocky Road set you back?

I hope we'll hear more reports like yours. Even though there may be griping about all the makeshift-ness, it's a good deal for Cal playing here this year.

Say it with me....."Thank G-d we're not at the 'Stick"...."Thank G-d we're not a the Coliseum"......

The paper said attendance of 32,000 but that can't be right. We were the only ones sitting in our row. If there were 25,000 I'd be surprised.

$6.00. And MB is tighter than a tick--so you know it had to be a healthy serving!!

Hope the fans who aren't AT&T regulars, will suck it up and get to know how special this venue can be. Each level has its own (baseball) culture, and fans in those levels wouldn't sit anywhere else. Sitting in the club level for football made me realize how much more I enjoy our baseball seats in View Reserved. Yes, further away from the field, but greater views of the bay, and a keener feeling of fan camaraderie. And at day games fans have a tendency to be far more laid back than at night.

Up there in VR, you can get the Go Bears chant going from section to section. Works like a charm.

Know the USC game will have a much different feeling. For those fans who chose not to cross the bay for this game, hope you have second thoughts. In your dotage, you will be able recall an odd season across the bay. Be part of it. Go Bears!

I thought I had read somewhere that we had 32,000 tickets sold (mostly through season tickets). There was definitely less than that number at the game, by far

The sight lines in the sideline bleachers are awesome. You are right on top of the action. The prices were too high but people will want to sit in these seats for Pac games. Hope they lower the prices and become more fan friendly.
Couple things that would help this section. Getting a yell leader or two to get the crowd into it (even with a leader would have been tough yesterday to get people going).
An audio speaker or two in this section would be nice and not that hard to do.
Really excited for the home games we have here the rest of the year. Especially if it's full and the atmosphere is brought up to a high level.
Hope Cal is on top of it and makes some minor improvements to create a home field advantage for the team.
PAC play is here!

Anyone who attended a Giants game down the stretch last season, or during the playoffs or World Series, can attest that AT&T can rock and be LOUD when the fans want it to. The key will be sellouts, which, who knows...

Cannon came but they didn't fire it - pretty sure I would have noticed at least one of the 9 shots had there been any. I realize now that when I told Bear Backers they should bring the cannon I should have been more specific.:headbang

Our seats were on the Club Level, far left field line; barely heard the student section even though they were right below us. The band you could hear but, given their location, and how we were situation, hard to hear. When they were on the field, no problem at all, great sound. The beer and cocktails were nice...really, nice. Unfortunately, half the concessions were closed and half the lounge seating areas were closed-off for ESP-holders. Although a Dryer's ice cream was nice, I was looking forward to a Ghiradelli sundae; hopefully, they'll be open for the next games.

With only a single-season of football at AT&T, I can live with the fact that the facility is not suited for football...far from it. Nevertheless, I'd much prefer AT&T over the dump that is the 'stick or, Coliseum. Having use of the entire big screen would've been nice.

Granted, I have only been going to Memorial for 35 years...but the experience at ATT was awesome. Got to the Public House a couple of hours early, saw the band, Oski and tons of Cal fans, had great food and drinks...In the stadium, good food, cocktails and no porta-potties, had plenty of sun, but not too much and at the end, grabbed a quick cab home. It felt like a bowl game...A perfect day...

Student section in the End Zone was stupid, stupid, stupid!

Go to most major schools, especially major football powers, the students are in the end-zone/corners. We're one of the very few that has students at mid-field.

I can sympathize since our student section is unique and very much apart of our game-day experience, however, when donor's and their dollars are being solicited...

It was a beautiful day. Great venue. Great eateries.

BUT....there was no spark among the Cal fans DURING the game. At Memorial even against Davis and Portland State and with a small crowd, the fans were more into the game than they were on Saturday. More of a buzz.
JT said the same thing that confirmed my feeling.
The game had a "San Francisco" (laid back) feeling to it instead of a "Berkeley" feeling ("Bear Territory" "Our House" 'In your face, Blue Hose", etc.). The big plays did not pump up the crowd as they would have at Memorial.

Not sure about the rest of you guys, but it was kind of tough to get pumped up without being able to see what was going. Terrible sight lines in the 132-135 area when the action is to the southwest side; pretty much impossible to see what was going on. Covering half the jumbotron in ads certainly didn't alleviate the problem. The worst was when the mic went out for the refs; from our distance and angle we couldn't make out half of the hand gestures when calling penalties.

That being said, when the action was on our side of the 50 or if the offense was moving towards the other endzone, everything was fine. But with the offense coming our way, the view was pretty heavily obstructed by the defensive players due to how low we were sitting (and we were around row 30, so it's not like we were all the way at field level). By far worse than the worst seats at CMS, and dare I say worse than the horrid vistor seats at the Mausoleum?

Can't wait to get back to CMS.
