I refer here to Sagarin's computed rankings and forecasts, available here.
What the data says about Cal is best & most quickly seen at our BearPlay game, where Sagarin's ratings and three point home field advantage are factored in.
The exec summary:
Cal beats UCLA, WSU, OSU, and UW, though the latter is close.
Cal loses to LSJU (badly), ASU, and USC, though the latter is close.
Though a seven win season gets a bowl game, there's no way this is good news giving that inserted text about the farm.
Caveat:
I'll add this caveat here so no one else has to: we are still so early in the season that computer predictions still have only a very thin basis. Once six or eight games have been played, the predictions will rise in quality, though even then the, "On any given day... " factor will still intrude.
