DEFENSE:
. Keep their RB Chris Polk to under 100 yards (difficult)
. Sack their QB Keith Price a minimum of three times (possible)
. Hurry Price's throws a minimum of five other times (difficult)
. Hit the QB hard if he starts scrambling (possible)
. A minimum of one take away (likely)

OFFENSE:
. Our running backs combine for 150+ yards running (likely)
. No more than two turn overs (possible)
. Maynard completes 50%+ of his passes (possible)

SPECIAL TEAMS:
. At least break even (possible)

PENALTIES:
. Have less penalties than UW (difficult on the road)

Have more points than UW when the clock says 0:00 at the end of the fourth quarter.....

I would also just add that the Bears need to feel that they "can win" on the road - ala Colorado - and I am hopeful that this year's version can rally should they get behind..I also think that this year's team has more optimism in that the offense has more weapons.

- Stop Polk
- Create turnovers

- Score early, gain confidence and take crowd out of game
- Establish run-game
- Reduce penalties

Defense
- Keep the run to 100 yds.
- Keep big passing plays to a minimum. If they get a big play, don't let them run in for the TD. Secondary needs to work together.
- Shutdown the RB screen.

Offense
- Pass to RBs in the slot as they're weak on the edges.
- Make their secondary pay with Maynard/Allen.
- Break out the designed QB runs.
- Biggie puts us in good field position on returns all day long.
- Hit them in the mouth first and shut the crowd down thus taking the wind out of their sails.

Actually, funky, if Cal just stops playing against itself, Cal may win on that alone. That is, don't throw any gimme picks for six points, greatly reduce shoot-yourself-in-the-foot penalties, and don't have any kicks blocked. I think this would be a major accomplishment for Cal giving them a good chance to win this game in hostile Seattle.

Defense
> Keep the Fuskies from scoring
> Maybe score some points of your own

Offense
> Score
> Score again

Special Teams
> Do your damn jobs!

I'd say rather than focusing on yardage from the Husky ground game, YPC is a better metric. We've been very stingy by YPC so far (2.36 YPC and 65 yards a game) and even if UW gets over 100 yards on the ground if it takes 30 carries to do it we're in great shape.

I expect both those numbers will be higher this week, but how much higher is the key. Washington is averaging 4.32 YPC and 148 yards a game so far. If we can hold them under 3.5 YPC and around 120 yards total I think we have a great shot at winning barring an offensive or pass-defense or special teams disaster. LOL.

Keys to the game: defense.
If cal plays like the defense I saw against Fresno state, they will win this game. Cal will score on Washington because Washington's defense is awful.
Special teams play must also be good -- we cannot afford another blocked punt unless our defense brings its 'A' game.

Actually, that's not a necessary requirement for victory since we could win in overtime.

agree here, friend Blueblood. I'd be thrilled to see us not turn the ball over and stop the drive-killing (or drive-reviving on defense) penalties. These teams appear very evenly matched, so this may be the difference maker between a win and a tough loss.

the other things folks have mentioned are important as well, but the basics may be the deciding factor.

Let Polk run but contain screen passes. And Kearse. Watched UW vs Nebraska and saw screen plays similar to the Colorado game that made me nervous.

If we're minus in the turnover department, you can almost kiss it good-bye.

Roll as many stops as you can. If it's a shoot out, every stop will be huge.

Look to find an extra possesion either on a surprise onside kick or a fake punt. In a shootout, field position is not worth nearly as much, and the reward of an extra possesion is well worth the risk.

Have a couple of your best 2 point conversion plays ready and be prepared to use them.

Play to win don't play afraid to lose - that will get you beat everytime on the road against an evenly matched opponent.

We need to play the whole 60 minutes, and if we do get ahead we can't get too conservative. It's highly unlikely the team that wins this game will have less than 30 points. We need to think touchdown every time we get the ball.

We had 0 turnovers for us at Boulder, although we were only -1 net (Zach's pic to the CU linebacker). We're gonna need a couple in Seattle.
