Did you see the post game handshake from Harbaugh?

He was jumping up and down like a kid after the game to midfield and gave more of a high five slap to Detroit's head coach rather than a handshake. The look on the head coach's face was classic.

Uh oh! update! THere was a scuffle at midfield! More details later!

I wonder what Harbaufgh said to him? Something snarkey enough to make Schwartz run him down and get in his face. That was awesome.

I think it was more like the reason he was over-celebrating, and then basically giving him an aggressive handslap, followed by a push in the back as he walked him.

I don't think Harbaugh really meant anything by it or premeditated--but simply his attitude.

Damnit. I turned the game off with 1 minute to go. Now I have to find a link.

I was listening on the radio. Ted Robinson thought Hairball was engaging in a lack of decorum by being over exuberant. Eric Davis disagreed and said Schwartz' team just lost the game and it is his issue, not Hairball's. This is an extension of the debate over celebrating to the coach level. I am in the anti celebration camp. If I was Schwartz I would have said something really nasty to Harbaugh and if Hairball wanted to get into then I would love to get into with him. Hairball is a major a-wipe (although a great coach).

Yeah, I'd much rather have Tedford. He represents the university so much better.

Can we say the highest rated playoff game this year? can't WAIT for the rematch. It is going to be epic (and I enjoy watching both of these guys a lot more than Mr. CEO, Jeff the Coward)

Schwartz was the one out of line there. Harbaugh is obviously a little too exuberant but Scwhartz is the guy trying to start a fight.

Harbaugh is a major ass, but is an outstanding coach. Really glad that he's no longer at Stanford.

You are correct, it isn't worth physical violence. But like Hairball, Schwartz lost control of himself. My Dad taught me when I was young never to disrespect anyone. That is a lesson not taught too much anymore. Unfortunately, at the street level, there are severe consequences to not having learned that lesson.

we have no room to talk about about Harbaugh. He is not my favorite person. But you know what?--right now he has been very successful. He knows what it takes to win and going for the jugular is it! Look at the positive state he left standfurd. It may sound foolish, but I wish Teddy was more like Hairball. Ted has got to get a jack-hammer and get his feet out of cement. Until Ted does that we are doooooooooooomed. Believe it or not. Teddy get the mirror out and look in it.

If you read my post with an 8th grade level, you'd see that I said the "8,9,10" win Tedford.

Now run along and go give the ghost of Don "NCAA Violater" James a wrap around.

I am far from a Hairball apologist. In fact, I can't stand him/his persona. But, Schwartz was 100% in the wrong on that. Harbaugh could/should have shown more class, but for Schwartz to chase the guy down 40 yards and try to start something is ridiculous.

Talk about an over reaction. Real men make a note of it and then take it out by beating the other team on the field the next time. Not trying to start a fight.

Also, give me a break. It's like basketball players talking junk. Nothing ever happens since everyone is there. Being the tough guy in a NFL post game is like being a tough guy on the Internet.

Whether or not Harbaugh was wrong his energy rubs off on his team, which is more than you can say for Tedford

The panel of NFL pundits at the halftime of the Raider game universally said Hairball was wrong, and that he is a great young coach who will learn a lesson today. Boomer basically said he was a jerk as a player too but that it is that jerky attitude that makes him great. Hey, that excuse worked for Bobby Knight for many, many years. I think most young people today think there is nothing wrong with what Hairball did.

Whoa. That is a BIG leap from Bobby Knight to Jim Harbaugh. Nowhere close. At least not yet.

Also, I don't think it has to do with age only. I saw the halftime show as well. What they FAIL to mention is Schwartz's reaction. Call it classless or a mistake on Hairball's part, but talk about the overreaction more.

The guy chases Hairball 40 yards down the field and wants to start a fight. Seriously?! That's not worse than slapping a guy too hard on his back b/c you are excited about a big win. That's not age based, that's a loss of perspective.

BTW, not sure if you were directing the young part to me, but as much as I hate it, I am far from young.

We don't know if it was an overreaction because we don't know what was said. Schwartz in his post game interview said that Harbaugh used an "obscenity" during the handshake.

Harbaugh at his post game interview said he shook Schwartz' hand too hard and that "it was on me."

Harbaugh is an ass, but his attitude has translated well in the college level and why not do the same at the college level?

Harbaugh is an outstanding coach football-wise and is happy to dish it out verbally and physically when he wins.

On the rare occasion he loses though he can't take it. Hypocrite. Douchebag. But a great coach nonetheless.

“Overall Big Game impression: As entertaining as any collegiate game played this season. It's just too bad that Harbaugh acted like a punk - for the second straight week. Maybe some people enjoyed his attempt at a two-point conversion with a 48-21 lead over USC, but there's no excusing his postgame ‘handshake’ with Tedford. Not bothering to slow down, Harbaugh barely touched Tedford's hand, didn't even look at him, and hurried on. That's just weak.”
-- Columnist Bruce Jenkins after the 2009 Big Game which Cal won on Mike Mohamed's interception

Keep in mind this was a week after trying to show up Carroll (not that I care for him either) in the "what's your deal" game, and Tedford definitely was NOT acting over-exuberant with Harbaugh to instigate it as Harbaugh is obviously happy to do.

Harbaugh did NOTHING wrong. He was happy that his team won a VERY tough game. Schwartz was pissed because he lost a tough game. The whole thing is WAY overblown. Both coaches behaved a bit childishly, but no big deal.

For people here to still bag on Harbaugh over NOTHING when he is raging in the pros strikes me as rather pathetic. We have WAY more serious problems on our Cal Bears than being concerned about how the ex-Stanford coach behaves after another professional win.

Personally, I think anyone here who still thinks they would prefer Tedford is being disingenuous. I don't see how Harbaugh ever put Stanford into disrepute, and his program just got better and better. I WISH that was Tedford.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
No, Harbaugh was clearly behaving as a total a$$, breaching protocol and showing remarkably poor sportsmanship. As OneKeg pointed out, he has a long track record of doing this during the post-game handshake. This of course does not exonerate Schwartz, his reaction is at least as bad.

I wouldn't be very comfortable with a coach who lacks class like Harbaugh. I hated Campanelli, who might have been an even bigger jerk. But this defect is more tolerable than that of a coach who cheats.
