Most of this is covered, but maybe some new ideas.

BTW - you don't mention how much time of have? A week, or 2 days?

In order:

* Yes to zoo! Everyone should see at least once.

* Balboa Park (across from the zoo) is the hidden gem of San Diego. You can spend a 1/2 day in the park w/o going into a single museum. Or visit one of the 30+ museums. We recently went to the model railroad museum...funny it was mentioned in another post. I'm not recommending that per se, just an example of the stuff that is in the park. Other great museums as well. Or just walk around, look at the performers, see the cactus garden, etc. 2-3 hours (previously mentioned) is about right, unless you add in a museum.

Also if you are driving to the zoo/Balboa Park, cruise around Bankers Hill (west side of Balboa park) and other nearby neighborhoods. Some great old homes. Sometimes getting lost down there can be very fun. <img src="<img src="<img src="<img src="" />" />" />">

* USS Midway is great for anyone interested in military history. (Or even not that interested....I finally dragged my wife along on my 4th tour and she loved it!) Don't forget SD is a Navy/Military town.

* Harbor Cruise is fun. You'll see a LOT of Navy ships, and the Russian guys that used to always be on the cruise taking lots of pictures have been replaced by Chinese guys. (Kidding?)

* Old Towne is also free. I'm not a huge fan, but it is one of the biggest tourist attractions in SD.

I'm not ranking GasLamp - the "downtown" area, but it's where the restaurants and bars are. Great restaurants too numerous to mention....

For off-the-track eats, try Barrio Logan. Las Cuatros Milpas is very famous, and we swear by El porvenir which just re-opened. (The local joy is akin to when Flynt's re-opened.) Look them up.

Also - in midtown on India street I'm a huge fan of "Saffron". This is a hole-in-the-wall take out chicken place that became a casual dining Thai restaurant (the chicken place is still going next door.) And every Wednesday is Kao Soy day - my all time favorite dish! The owner is fairly famous - you'll see pictures of her with Julia Child and she's written several cook books. Her collection of Chihuly glass is famous - recently listed in <a href="<a href="<a href="<a href="<a href="http://"http://www.sandiegomagazine.com/media/San-Diego-Magazine/September-2011/100-Works-of-Art/"""""" class="postlink " target="_blank">http://"http://www.sandiegomagazine.com/media/San-Diego-Magazine/September-2011/100-Works-of-Art/""""" class="postlink " target="_blank"><a href="http://"http://www.sandiegomagazine.com/media/San-Diego-Magazine/September-2011/100-Works-of-Art/""""" class="postlink " target="_blank">http://"http://www.sandiegomagazine.com/media/San-Diego-Magazine/September-2011/100-Works-of-Art/"""" class="postlink " target="_blank"><a href="<a href="http://"http://www.sandiegomagazine.com/media/San-Diego-Magazine/September-2011/100-Works-of-Art/""""" class="postlink " target="_blank">http://"http://www.sandiegomagazine.com/media/San-Diego-Magazine/September-2011/100-Works-of-Art/"""" class="postlink " target="_blank"><a href="http://"http://www.sandiegomagazine.com/media/San-Diego-Magazine/September-2011/100-Works-of-Art/"""" class="postlink " target="_blank">http://"http://www.sandiegomagazine.com/media/San-Diego-Magazine/September-2011/100-Works-of-Art/""" class="postlink " target="_blank"><a href="<a href="<a href="http://"http://www.sandiegomagazine.com/media/San-Diego-Magazine/September-2011/100-Works-of-Art/""""" class="postlink " target="_blank">http://"http://www.sandiegomagazine.com/media/San-Diego-Magazine/September-2011/100-Works-of-Art/"""" class="postlink " target="_blank"><a href="http://"http://www.sandiegomagazine.com/media/San-Diego-Magazine/September-2011/100-Works-of-Art/"""" class="postlink " target="_blank">http://"http://www.sandiegomagazine.com/media/San-Diego-Magazine/September-2011/100-Works-of-Art/""" class="postlink " target="_blank"><a href="<a href="http://"http://www.sandiegomagazine.com/media/San-Diego-Magazine/September-2011/100-Works-of-Art/"""" class="postlink " target="_blank">http://"http://www.sandiegomagazine.com/media/San-Diego-Magazine/September-2011/100-Works-of-Art/""" class="postlink " target="_blank"><a href="http://"http://www.sandiegomagazine.com/media/San-Diego-Magazine/September-2011/100-Works-of-Art/""" class="postlink " target="_blank">http://"http://www.sandiegomagazine.com/media/San-Diego-Magazine/September-2011/100-Works-of-Art/"" class="postlink " target="_blank">"100 Works of Art to See Before You Die" in San Diego Magazine. My other post ignored the fact that some people bring young kids, it was mostly about food, drink or other activities.

A couple of very good things for kids under 10:

1. Children's Museum, downtown, walking distance from team hotel or other hotels. <a href="<a href="<a href="<a href="<a href="
