I see him mentioned as OL or DE ..

but why not TE .. a guy with his size and skills (basketball) would seem to be a guy who can catch the ball (jump balls in the endzone? for you old folks remember Owens with the Whiners), almost like having an additional OT on the field??

would seem worth looking at .. and might be a another good reason to come to CAL

Lord knows Cal certainly could use an "impact player" at TE - it's been a long, long time since Tony Gonzalez

If the young man is considering the NFL a left tackle on offense makes huge money.

We had a guy named Tarik Glenn who started his career at Cal on the DL and then was converted to a LT. What a success story he was. Went onto to play over 10+ years in the NFL with Peyton and the Indy gang.

Cameron morrah and Craig Stevens were pretty impact, not sure Tony ever went to bowl (could be wrong) I still think Richard Rodgers is that guy with Hagan as an H Back

Davidson;667734 said:

Because he wants to play de

exactly.

I think everyone in the country except the armstead family wants arik to play OT because he would be the number 1 recruit if that were the case, but he wants to be a DE and he would still be a very good one. TE seems like a nice idea though, especially if he has soft hands down low in B-Ball.

He's set on playing DE.

There is an article about Army AA coaches trying to get Armstead to just try lining up at left OT even for a single snap and couldn't get him to do it.

He's still tearing things up as a DE.

Can Aaron Tipoti move to DE next year? Tipoti, Moala, Armstead would be lethal.

A lot of people thought we should of played Keenan Allen at Safety...hell some people still do. The fact is he wanted to play WR and we put him there per his request and now he is one of the best WRs we have ever had.

Most schools wanted to recruit him as a DB, but he wanted to play WR....guess what, Cal said "yes" and he is now committed to Cal...put it this way, either we get Arik as a DE or some other school will. OL is not in the equation.

We need to play more people everywhere and be creative with how we use the talent we have. WHich means - play him at DE if that's what he's best at, and expand over the years to jumbo package TE.

I believe people are greatest at what they love. If he loves DL, he will be great at it.

If AA wants to play DE then I am sure JT will let him do so. I am sure we would be happy to have him at whatever position he wants to play. Would be nice to see him do two sports -- an additional big body for Monty would be very cool.

People need to stop it with this Armstead should play OT nonsense. If he wants to play DE, let him. It's not like he sucks at that.

However, I think there is merit in thinking outside the box and having him at TE for a few special plays or packages. Tell me he wouldn't jump at the chance to plow a LB over and lead the RB in for the score. That's just FUN.

Lafayette: No disrespect but

There is no way in heck that Starkey calls the play like that. More likely:

Starkey:
So here we go now and the Bears need a touchdown. The Bears line up and…. Wait a minute. What is he doing in there? Where is he going?

The Bears appear to be trying a bit of trickery…. Oh, that may backfire.

They snap the ball, he falls back. It appears to be a sack… No, he got it out.
The ball sails high and over the endzone. What, wait. He caught it? No. Yes, but it appears he was out of the endzone, so the Bears will have to try a field goal here on fourth down.

What? There’s a bit of milling around in the endzone. The officials are signaling touchdown. Yes! Touchdown bears. What a bonanza. It appeared for all the world that the ball had sailed over the endzone, but he simply reached out and grabbed it in a sea of defenders.

However, this will need to be reviewed as his foot was definitely out of bounds.

No, the officials are still signaling touchdown and no review as the stadium replay clearly shows his foot was a good foot or so inbounds. So the bears get a lucky break and score the touchdown.

Pawlawski: <Shaking his head> and says to self: WTF did he just say???

<Kickoff happens>

On third down of subsequent series (and radio audience still has no clue what happened nor what distance is now needed for first down), Starkey finally explains….

On the Bears’ last touchdown, so, it was Armstead huh? Great catch, good hands there. On third and goal from the seven he lined up as a tight end and ran a simple post and just reached out and pulled the ball in. Good awareness too, as he was a good 2 to three feet from the back of the endzone. Great, great play.

So, here we go now as the center snaps the ball and he throws it too high and over his head….. and the reception is made….

Radio audience: What happened? Who caught it? Where? Was it a first down? Aaaaggghhh!

The fact is that we can say we want him at OT but its not hapenning. He wants to play DE, if he wanted to play OT he would still be a $c commit ok! Let the guy do what he loves!
