Has Mr. #calgang even put out a statement about how difficult a decision it was for him to leave the only school he ever had known?

Curious, because if he hasn't, that should tell you a lot about him and his character.

Let me add that as a Duck, I completely understand how it must feel for Cal to lose a guy like Tosh. It's different when it's one of your own who leaves, and not just some guy passing through town.

I'm guessing none of you feel let down as a Cal alum by Kiesau leaving, at least in terms of what you thought he was all about.

At least when Tedford left Oregon for Cal, he did it in an honorable manner.

We have had Cal guys leave for promotions at other programs (Stanford's Rose Bowl coach in the 70's was John Ralston, a former Cal player and coach). It is that he broke his word, did it behind Tedford's back and was trying to flip Cal's top commit while on a Cal official in-home visit and is out trying to flip Cal commits now. Recruits that he spent years developing relationships with at Cal expense while employed as a Cal coach and now he will try to turn that with two weeks to go before LOI day.

It will be interesting to see how much recruiting he does in the next two weeks of anyone who is NOT a Cal commit or recruit. My guess is zero.

Does he still have roots in the east bay?

Achieving success is one thing, but how you handle that success, and the spoils that come with it, is when you show your true colors.

Seems as if Mr. Lupoi has some growing up to do, and playing XBox with 18 year-olds isn't exactly the real world.

I guess I'm just wondering what UW's hook is going to be in terms of recruiting.

Oregon has the flash, the uniforms, the offense, the buzz, Nike, etc.

Cal has location (location! location!), great academics, new facilities, etc.

UW is remodeling the Mistake by Montlake, bought some young assistants, won a split 'national title' before recruits were born, and what else, exactly?

I just don't think it's as bad as many Cal fans think it is. The coolness factor and being able to relate with young kids was a big part of it.

However, much like the Hollywood starlet who wakes up at age thirty and realizes her former roles no longer exist, there is an expiration date to relying on that sort of "game."

You either move forward or die and not every "cool young recruiter" becomes an Ed Orgeron just like not every starlet becomes the rarity of Meryl Streep.

Sarq has done a miserable job of recruiting home grown top players, and this in an area and state that is the height of xenophobia. Loopie's first and most important task is to recruit the home kids. The thing keithprice needs to understand is that Sarkface has essentially bet the house on black and UW will be left holding the bill whether it works out or not.

If he doesn't win the conference in th next 3 years, his a$$ is gone and so are all his overpaid assistant coaches... There is a rich football tradition at Washington. UW has always been a football school. We are getting back to prominance. Football is highly supported here. As far as ripping on the city of Seattle? Weather is better in Cal, no doubt. Seattle is a beautiful city. That is why so many Califonians move up here. I feel bad that we are raiding Cals Coaches, but changes need to be made. Our defense really, and still does, suck.

PDXDuckFan;682106 said:

I guess I'm just wondering what UW's hook is going to be in terms of recruiting.

Oregon has the flash, the uniforms, the offense, the buzz, Nike, etc.

Cal has location (location! location!), great academics, new facilities, etc.

UW is remodeling the Mistake by Montlake, bought some young assistants, won a split 'national title' before recruits were born, and what else, exactly?

I just don't think it's as bad as many Cal fans think it is. That was due to the Tyee Club, and we all know what happened after that.

Now, the Tyee Club seems to be taking over again, but this time, they are buying young recruiters to bring recruits to UW. If I'm the NCAA, I'm paying close attention. Oregon got an investigation, and possible sanctions, over Lyles, but Tosh Lupoi is connected to both Lyles and Otis Yelverton. Both schools paid for a garbage 'service' from Lyles, yet Yelverton and Lyles both made trips to Cal with recruits.

Lyles made a trip to Oregon, but it wasn't with Seastrunk. Sark is all-in, and UW need to know they just paid for a brand of recruiting that they were bashing as of two days ago.

Saw this on another site. Has Lupoi said anything about his days at Cal yet, and if it was hard for him to leave? Perhaps Mr. Lupoi will note that Mr. Heyward at least had the decency to talk to Mike Riley and the D-coordinator before leaving clearing out his office at OS.

Quote:

"I've been at Oregon State going on 12 years as a player, graduate assistant and assistant coach," ...

"But money is not a factor for me coaching. The toughest thing was having to talk to Coach Riley and Coach Banker. Those guys taught me so much. But sometimes you have to look at the whole situation."

Heyward said he will leave Corvallis with fond memories.

"I'm very grateful to Oregon State, Coach Riley, Coach Banker and everybody else I've worked with there," he said. As an aside from the exact subject here, I'm glad to see a Ducks fan coming in here echoing our sentiments to show it's not just us being bitter.

I think it's great Kiesau got a job that he sees as an upgrade. I hope any recruits like McCarthy or Armstead are happy at their new schools if they think they're gonna be better fits for them.

The Tosh issue is completely different. I think anyone who's been following the story who isn't a Huskies fan will see this isn't just another case of a coach leaving a school. The way he handled the situation after making his decision have made all the difference.
