Brother is returning to SC this semester and Arik is announcing on signing day. INTERESTING to say the least. Some speculation in social media land - After being pronounced deceased the tweeters find out that

THE BEAR WILL NOT DIE

#calgang
#wegotallthatweneed
#butarikwouldbesuchfacepalmtoTo$h

I don't understand, if his brother is returning to SC wouldn't AA likely also fallow him?

Armond is going back to SC to finish up some courses and will then transfer to another school in the fall. He is not returning to play football.

I'm confused, would that mean armond could potentially transfer to Cal next year?
CalRyno

I believe Armond would have to sit out a year if he were transfer to a Pac12 school.

Eric Lorig anyone? Anyway, this is good for us, I guess.

But I'm sure he knows what he is doing.

I love the guys we've already got committed and would love to add Arik to the list.

Go Bears!

I think we still have a good shot at pulling AA if Tedford makes the right hire.

I may be wrong, but I though AA (the elder) can play at a P12 b/c he's graduating and going to a program not offered by his current school. That is regardless of whether he graduates now v. later. More time is better.

It's good for us in the sense that there was no way Arik was going to commit to Cal without knowing who his position coach was. So any announcement this week was not going to favor Cal. Even if we hired someone immediately, the new coach wouldn't be able to establish a strong rapport with Arik. Delaying his decision until signing day buys us time. Presumably the family still likes everything else they liked about the school prior to Tosh leaving. Tedford is strong with families. We still have a lot to offer. (It also suggests that neither ND nor Auburn blew the brothers away.) But Arik and the family have to feel comfortable with the new DLine coach. It would also definitely help if Shaq were securely back in the fold, as the two are from the same area and are friends.

The Pac-12 rules on intra-conference transfers are interesting.

However, I would think that USC would have to agree to it. That would be what might kill such a plan.

I'm pretty sure that someone posted in an earlier thread that even as a grad student, if you transfer within the Pac12 you would have to sit out a year. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that somebody posted the rule.

Could Monty tell AA that he may have an oppty. for some PT if he enrolls now? I know, it's a reach but heck, I would have never dreamed in a million years that Tosh and Kiesau would be at UW today.

Now we know why Solomon was in trouble with Monty. We need to get that young back on track. It would help if AA came in to play hoops this semester, but he would need to enroll immediately. Of course, next year AA would really help our BB team.:gobears:

It might be that they are forcing USC's hand. I am not sure Armond's scholarship opens up if he does not transfer. USC may release him to get an opening to offer someone. I thought about Armond doing this about a week ago but let it slide.

It's unlikely AA would ever help our BB team in any significant way. He's being recruited for football for a reason.

I thought the ability to transfer for SC students was still there since they are on probation?

So, if this scenario were to play-out, Arik would commit to Cal within the next two weeks, and his older bro sometime thereafter, to play at Cal in 2013, Arik's sophomore year?

Don't be so sure SC doesn't quietly let Armstead leave w/o penalty and use his scholie for someone else after all the recruting hub-bub has died down.

I doubt he was doing that just as a favor to JT.

Each school that has been mentioned as a serious contender for him has agreed he can play Basketball as well - and considering the smaller roster size for BBall - I can't imagine a BBall coach just saying, "yeah, he could take up a spot on my squad"

I think this pushing back of his commitment date actually helps schools on quarter systems more like say Oregon or UW. If his goal was to attend spring practice, but he waits till signing day to commit then his best option and only option (I think) is a quarter system.
