I was surprised to see no Cal offer for this local 4*, does anyone have more details to his recruitment?

Yeah.....that is puzzling. At first I thought "grades" but if Michigan, UCLA and Nebraska offered him, probably not....he sure seems fast for a tall kid. Even though he is listed as WR, seems like he was used all over the place on offense and defense....no glaring stats but did a lot of things....another local kid not even on our radar?...hmmm... he is not even listed in the database at all. Maybe Tosh stole his file and erased him from the files seeing as Washington has offered him as well...

Co-worker is close to Freedom High football team. I asked him about Daniels. He didn't say much positive things about DD, work ethic and so on.

That's too bad, perhaps there are some character concerns with this kid which prevents an early offer. Still would hate to see a nationally ranked local talent anywhere else but at Cal.

I'm closer to this situation than most. I haven't heard the same character concerns. By all accounts he is a good kid and I know Coach Hartwig really loves him. He's probably the biggest prospect to come out of the Liberty Union High School District in some time. He really exploded when he worked out at the All American combine in January.

If I had to guess, I'd say the same as GoldenJax. I'd bet he gets an offer in person. The coaching staff loves to do that. Next time I see Coach Hartwig I'll dig a little deeper.

Maybe...but he isn't even in our database....wonder what is up with that if he is any good?.....Michigan, Nebraska etc seem to think so.

My grand parents had an almond orchard at the corner of Oakley and Neroly roads (now in Oakley). I had my first communion in Oakley. My mother grew up in Knightsen and attended Liberty in Brentwood. So many of the old farms and orchards have been converted into housing that new schools would be a byproduct; still it seems strange to have a high school in Oakley. Haven't been back since we moved to Mexico's finest city (San Diego) twelve years ago.

Sp, small world! I live in knightsen right now, absolutely love it here. One of the last real touches of country we have, but with cable Internet haha.

A bit of a hardscrabble farm community when my mother and my grandparents were there. I remember going by their old homestead, part of the meadow had alkali flats where nothing would grow. Moving to the sand dune orchard and vineyard along Neroly was the best career move they ever made. Unlike dairy and poultry, grapes and nuts were not a 24 hour farming enterprise. My grandfather got a job at a pulp mill, worked long enough to get Social Security minimum retirement and expanded the almond orchard to 20 acres when the irrigation canal line was built and made a comfortable life for the family.

I do remember the great sunflower seed fire in Knightsen, probably long before your time. A whole square block of Knightsen burned for days/weeks; at the time it may have been the world's largest sunflower seed storage facility. Gees, that wasn't long after I graduated from Cal in 1970.

sp4149, Apparently there are 2 high schools in Oakley, Deer Valley as well as Freedom (and Darrell Daniels). My boss lives about half a mile from Freedom (school about 10 yrs old now), but in Brentwood. His kids will go there in a few years. Deer Valley is the one that surprised me, as its on Lone Tree, and I thought it was pretty much on the border of Brentwood and Antioch, but Yahoo Maps says it's Oakley as well. Brentwood has many years been the fastest growing (%) city in California, and has Heritage High as well as Liberty still being there, plus Freedom & Deer Valley are just barely out of Brentwood.

liBEARtyre04, still drive by Knightsen, using the back roads from Discovery Bay when going to Brentwood or Antioch. And I thought the annual Pro-Am Waterski tournament was in Knightsen, as I drive down Eden Plains and enter Knightsen City Limits, turn right (east, away from Brentwood) on Fisher, and somehow end up back in Brentwood City Limits.

I find it hard to believe we haven't been in touch with Daniels since Tosh left. If true, I'd think grades are our concern, but per his offers that doesn't seem to be the case, so if true we haven't contacted him, sounds baffeling.

Deer valley is actually in Antioch. Unfortunately, that part of Antioch has gone down hill the last 10 years or so. But they continue to put out D1 basketball and football talent.

Freedom has 2 nfl players right now as does deer valley. Nice to see that. I wish liberty (my alma mater 04), would get back to just producing D1 talent. Coach Hartwig tells me he has Daniels, and maybe 2 other D1 guys on his squad this year.

Say, what ever happened to that great receiver from Freedom few years back, probably a 2009 grad? Name escapes me but I think it started with an "R"? Roman?

forget what year it was, but they had a really good back in Herm Urenda

If that's what Yahoo says, they are incorrect. Your first inclination was much more accurate. As LiBEARty pointed out, Deer Valley is most def in Antioch and a handful of blocks from Brentwood. Also, it is not too far from the edge of Oakley, but not in Oakley.

Eight, nine years ago I was working with a guy (Ross Davis) who had played football at Liberty. His family had an island farm north of Knightsen, had to take a ferry to the shore to get to school. Guy was a giant, 6'9" 300+ pounds.
Blew out his knee his senior year. 30-40 years ago that was the end; today he would get a D-1 scholarship after knee surgery. Most of the time he had three guys blocking him; the knee injury was probably inevitable.
Still for opponents it had to be almost like lining up against Andre the Giant.

MB, got any info on the situation?
