How many tickets did Tennessee give Cal in '06?

Does anyone know how many visitor tickets Tennessee gave Cal in 2006? I'm not sure how to find out this information.

I'm curious because I'm pretty disappointed in Ohio State's decision to limit the number of visitor seats we will receive to 1200, and I figured this would be the best comparison to see how egregious a decision it was.

I know that people like to lament how the new landscape of college football is all about money and has shirked tradition, but this seems like something else entirely. It just feels mean and immoral. I'm hoping someone will tell me we only received 1200 tickets in Knoxville (although I'm not optimistic since it certainly felt like more than that).

Either way, I'm planning to make the best of things.

I can't answer your question but they gave USC 5000 in 2009. OSU got pretty embarrassed by a mediocre USC squad with a Freshmen QB so maybe thy are scared of the PAC 12

Not sure how many tickets Tennessee allotted to Cal, but they split them up into two sections. One section was very low in one of the end zones. The other section was in the top deck in the opposite end zone. Dividing the tickets that way made a big difference in the noise coming from Cal fans in the one or two instances when there was something worth cheering about.

Someone posted 7,000 the other day. I was there and I would guess that was right. OSU sucks big time! I'm going and had to buy on Stub Hub.

5,000 -6,000 sounds right and I think ~4,000 - 6,000 is average for OOC BCS opponents. 1,200 is a joke. All I remember is that it felt like Cal fans had taken over Knoxville the night before the game and then you walked in to Neyland and we were just a sliver of blue in the upper deck.

Yeah, the Neyland visitor sections look like this:

I think we had a little more of the upper deck than Kentucky or whoever that is and we also had a third small section above that corner end zone group you can barely make out below the far end of the press box in this photo from the Cal section:

Right, breaking up the visitors and putting most of them at the rim of the stadium works perfectly. So naturally Cal eliminates the Blue Zone, expands the visitor section and adds huge block of single game tickets right next to it almost guaranteeing an undivided wall of Oregon/SC/UCLA/Stanford/tOSU fans down to field level in the south end zone going forward :headbang

Hopefully, we do them just as dirty on the comeback...

Hopefully we show some class and allot them more tickets at Memorial Stadium next year than they're giving us at the 'Shoe this year. 1201 sounds about right

This is what Cal issued in it's game announcement. I know we talk tough on limiting the ticket allocation to opposing teams but not sure I've seen it in writing before. Hopefully we mean it this time.

"A very limited number of tickets in the Cal seating section for the Cal-Ohio State game in Columbus will go on sale to ESP participants, season-ticket holders and donors on a first-come, first-served basis beginning Wednesday, June 20. All tickets purchased through Cal Athletics are $70 each, plus handling fees. Per Big Ten policy, everyone regardless of age, must have a ticket to enter Ohio Stadium. Each ticket-holder account will be limited to two tickets, with tickets available for purchase at 9 a.m. PT each day according to the schedule below, based upon availability. Cal has issued the same number of limited seats to Ohio State when the Buckeyes visit Memorial Stadium on Sept. 14, 2013."

You can't compare our situation to OSU or an SEC team. They sell out every game and can easily keep visiting fans spread out. We could make the visiting section minuscule but opposing fans could still call up the ticket office and buy out large chunks of tickets in other sections.

The number of tickets we allot for Ohio State in Memorial is meaningless if we open single game tickets to the general public. Ohio State fans will buy them all up at the same time as casual Cal fans are able to purchase them.

There needs to be a concerted and well targeted plan to offer the remaining single tickets to ESP holders first, then season ticket holders, then affiliates of Cal, and then a long waiting period before opening them up to the general public (i.e. Ohio St fans).

There should be no limits on how many extra tickets season ticket holders can buy (if necessary, a 20 seat limit). Any extra unsold seats after all of the Cal affiliated sales could maybe be sold as part of a 3 game package (although Ohio St fans will probably be willing to buy these), or even better if there aren't too many left, hold some and release them days before or day of game, ensuring Ohio St fans have the highest degree of difficulty with travel plans.

If the above push to sell seats to Cal affiliated persons isn't followed, and thousands of seats are offered to the general public, then expect a sea of red to invade Berkeley in a high volume. We might as well give them 10,000 tickets, since it wouldn't change the outcome if Cal doesn't start thinking outside the box.

This will be a great opportunity for our new Marketing/Gold Team to shine. Do us proud.

All of us can do our part by buying extra tickets for our more casual Cal friends to attend. I just hope we are given the opportunity.
