...that it is one of the best BBQ places around. There is one off the highway in Fairfield that I pass when I come home and I keep trying to get in there because of what some people have told me.

Vegetables, hummus and sushi shouldn't be allowed at football games.

That's two different BBQ spots with Texas in it. The one that will be catering for the game is Boneheads Texas BBQ, I think they only do catering (http://www.boneheadsbbq.com/). They were the ones that provided the catering for the Fan Zone last year at AT&T. My wife and I considered having them cater our wedding this summer.

The one you're thinking in Fairfield, I believe is Texas Roadhouse, a restaurant (http://www.texasroadhouse.com/).

Anyone else a little worried that Cal Dining is providing the food for the stadium? I'm glad they're working with other providers. Also another minor quip, they Cal Dining guy kept saying about serving the "students", but they'll mostly be serving non-students at the stadium!

Could it be any worse that Western Sports Enterprises? No worries here.

Another minor quip: well, it was an interview conducted by a student-run newspaper.

I doubt that students buy much food from stadium concessions; the prices are too expensive for students. Will be interesting to see the cost of a Top Dog hot dog. My guess is about $6.50 or $7.00.

Only in Japan (and Macau or Hong Kong) as it is unavailable anywhere else.

It's football stadium for heavens sakes not a pot luck at Dumpster Muffins. I really miss the good old days, ( The late 50's, early 60's) Orange gremlins spiked with vodka, fights in the all male rooting section. Next thing you know you'll have to be neutered to go to a game.

is part of a new initiative on campus--outsourcing those functions that aren't "education." Most of the on-campus dining places (e.g., Pat Brown's in the Goldman building, Ramona's in Woorster, Jimmy Bean's in the Haas School) have been granted to outside concessionaires. Ditto transportation (Humphrey Go-Bart and Vincent Van-Go are gone; replaced by outside transportation companies). Housing will be next. It makes sense, since these outside companies are better at providing these services and can do so far more cheaply (the campus anticipates netting some income from the food services).

Agree completely. Sushi and football just don't go together.

I ONLY eat sushi, poke and beer for UH games at Aloha Stadium.

Our annual tailgate for the UCLA game features sashimi, sushi, oysters on the half shell, etc. as one of our group (the other Cal alum) owns the fantastic Tokyo Fish Market on San Pablo--they open at 9:00 AM on Saturdays LINK

So I do think football and sushi can go together.

That said, I would NEVER buy sushi at CMS.

Sushi?

To quote Terry Bradshaw, "Where I come from, we call that stuff 'bait'!"

Also, not to be an alarmist...but check this out

I can tell you right now that you will not be seeing Asians eating sushi at CMS and we know how many Asians go/went to Cal.

All I know is I'm going to drop however much money it takes to try it a little of everything, short of wasting too much time in lines.

There's a vas deferens between being neutered and merely being clipped.

You are rubbing it in. You didn't have to remind me. Though it is a good idea for taking the little misses on a vacation.

I agree with the gremlins. I still make them at home and just **** off my darling wife with the scrapping of the spoon in the oj.

Recipe? I've heard about these damn Gremlins so many times on BI, I have to try one.

I can't agree with you guys about sushi not going to be a popular food item. There's a reason every grocery store in the state now makes and sells the stuff. You already see lot's of it at AT&T (people bringing it in from Safeway), as well as in the airports, and most any other place where lot's of people gather and want a quick meal.

Every campus that I've recently been on in this area is selling it at some location or other. My son's at UCSC, and he says that it's in at least one dining hall every week. I'd being willing to bet the same is true at Cal.

Personally I prefer Top Dog or some other sandwich, but I know that my wife and daughter will likely choose sushi every time. I'm pretty sure that a lot of sushi boxes are going to get sold. Wish I had the concession...

The guy who owns Boneheads lives down the street from me in Moraga and his big smoker's often behind his van on the street when I walk my dog. Best to not go by when hungry. They've catered a bunch of events I've been to and it's pretty good, though not up there with the best.

It's basically just frozen orange juice. I used to "make" them, using old yogurt or similar containers, and found out that it was best to start with frozen orange juice concentrate and use a bit less water, also allowing a bit of room at the top for expansion during freezing..

At the games, half the fun (presuming you didn't have a flask of vodka with you) was seeing if you could sail the cardboard lid down onto the field. There was always a sea of white lids on the sidelines afterwards.

Sadly, all the Gremlin fun ended in the early seventies (I believe) when hundreds of fans became sick at a game from contaminated product. It was one of the few games that I had to miss during that era so I dodged the bullet on that one.

That was the demise of the Gremlin (also known as a "Gremmie") --- forever.

Good grief---what's that slop you're eating? Great miracles of phreaking cardio-chemistry?

The Chicken Rice Bowl looks like "grilled" chicken slices from some sack in the Costco delicase plopped on top of some kind of sticky rice, and the Philly Cheesteak Sandwich---greasy fried onions and sliced beef topped with Velveeta---it is what it is.

Well, at least they can't destroy a Top Dog. Woof!

I just get some OJ, can't say my preferred brand because I might get slammed, and put in a drinking glass or cup of your choice and freeze it. Grab a spoon and enjoy. As it starts to get slushy it even better.
