it was pro bono

findings from a group of talented Cal alumni from Bain & Co. who undertook an objective, independent analysis of our department operations pro bono

different Bain. The company the campus used is a consulting firm based in SF.

btw, the report is very interesting. Argues that the AD is pretty efficient in terms of operating costs, ranks near the bottom among peer institutions in terms of institutional support (and going down), will need $6-8 million more/year in coming years, and developed plans for increasing ticket sales, philanthropy, and ancillary income.

Don't like the suggestion for potentially moving the student section from the middle of the field to free up more premium 'donor' seats.

Where is BAMS these days btw? Wonder why he didn't post the Bain report? :sarc:

I would encourage everyone to read the report or the executive summary if you don't want to get lost in the weeds. Or you can stay uninformed like Barsky, BAMS, and the lunatic fringe of the faculty.

Bain and Co. in SF is an office of Bain and Co., Boston. I have no problem with Bain, it is a great company. Just posted the initial post to pull the chains of some of my more liberal acquaintances on this board for whom Bain is the epitome of evil capitalists.
Steve Ellis is the west coast partner, (SF and Palo Alto, I think) of Bain. He is a Cal grad in Econ and History, with an MBA from, dare I say it, Stanford.

Bain and Co. Is not the same as Bain Capital. Former is a consulting firm, latter is the PE fund that spun out of the consulting firm and has been villainized.

I don't think anything has been villainized except for a certain former employee's claims that his experience there qualifies him as a "job creator."

In any event, what Bain Capital does (buying and selling companies for profit) is very different from what Bain & Co. does (management consulting). You can quibble about the benefits of the work done by either organization, but they aren't in the same line of business.

Which is a claim that was never made by him. Nice attempt at false equivalence.
